Unexpected Joys of Motherhood

The moment I saw the two lines in my pregnancy test I was so happy and I could not explain the feeling, all I know is I will be a mother soon but it was not a successful pregnancy. But God is so good and He gave me another chance and now I have a son. I always say that my son completes me because I know that without him I won’t be a mother.

“The moment a child is born, the mother is also born, she never existed before. The woman existed but the mother never. A mother is something absolutely new“ – Rajneesh

No one says that motherhood is a sweet journey and you never know how hard it is unless you become a mother. I hope there is a Motherhood 101 lesson in school so I would be prepared but there isn’t any lesson but every day is a chance for me to learn how to raise my son, how to be a good mother, and how to enjoy being a full-time mom.

Being a mother is not easy because there are always challenges, trials, and mistakes along the way. There are times that I feel that I’m not doing the right thing and I’m such a failure mom but I know that it is all part of life. Despite all of these hardships and challenges, I can definitely say that I’m grateful because God gave me the opportunity to become a mom and I will not trade this for anything because there are a lot of sweet moments, happy memories, and joys of motherhood.

My unexpected joys of motherhood

1. I’m happy that I chose to be a stay at home mom because I have more time with my son and I can capture those first-time moments. Witnessing his first smile, crawl, steps, etc. are priceless memories.

2. I enjoy taking photos of his developments, milestones, and crazy moments.
3. The first time my son called me “mommy”
4. Hugs and kisses from my son are enough to melt my heart even when I’m mad.
5. I have a companion when my husband is not around.
6. I know I will have separation anxiety if my son wants to have his own bedroom.
7. Our everyday activity and bonding.
8. I find blogging inspiration from him.

Motherhood is a lifetime journey and process. I learn and discover some things that I did not know that I have. I never thought that I could love someone unconditionally. Honestly, I’m not fond of kids’ maybe that is why I don’t want to be a teacher because I have very little patience but when I had my son, everything change. He changed me.

  9. I agree, sis. Of all the rights of a woman, the greatest is to be a mother. Motherhood changes women talaga. And yes, although it's hard, it's a wonderful journey. It may not always be a bed of roses, but there's nothing our child coudn't make up for. They just make everything better.

  14. Naaliw naman ako sa 'separation anxiety'

Most moms seem to have that.

  15. very nice thoughts on motherhood, i think all moms share the same insights about being a mom. Motherhood really changes a woman into a person God intends her to be.

  16. Although at times I think my brain is turning to mush, I have recently begun to pay attention to the new skills -- and stresses -- that have come along with motherhood. I have also learned to be more patient. Because I have more than one child, I quickly learned how to distract angry children and resolve conflicts.

Motherhood has not only changed how I view myself, but also how I view the world. It is refreshing to see ordinary things through the eyes of children. They can make the most mundane events seem magical. My children have taught me to love unconditionally and about pure joy. They teach me many lessons and they do it in very subtle ways.

  17. Being a mother takes a lot of work and you have to give up almost everything but it so worth it! It's like our perception has changed for the better. We no longer exist on our own, we exist for our baby.

  28. Womanhood isn't complete unless she became a Mother. Being a MOM is her fulfillment in life. That's how I see my wife.

PS. A woman don't need to get pregnant just to become a MOM, it happens once a life is brought to you to give care.

  41. Oh yes! Being a SAHM is really a gift. I started to be one last November 2010. A month before that, kaka-resign ko palang sa work then we found out I'm pregnant. I was devastated kasi iniisip ko sana pala di ako nag resign kasi kailangan ko mag work for 2 now. Pero sabi ng asawa ko to resign since I was so stressed that time na talaga and my passion for work is 1/10 nalang. So I give it all to God and trusted him on his decisions for me. Everything happens for a reason because after I resigned, I had problems with my pregnancy. I was in bed rest until 6th month. Imagine that? Ang hirap! It's really a blessing.

  45. I guess there is no Motherhood 101 because every mother is unique in her own ways, and so is the child. Motherhood is a privilege, but some women squander on that. But for those who take motherhood seriously and with dedication, I commend all of you. :-)

We don't have lunchbreaks, day-offs, bonuses, and other benefits that come with working in an office. But, we've got the once-in-a-lifetime chance of being with our kids as they grow up.

  66. Congratz! Take care of your kid. God has given you the opportunity to rear up His spirit children. Motherhood is joint stewardship with the Heavenly Father. Rear up your son according to the "nurture and admonition of the Lord." Train him the way he should go and when he grows up he won't depart from it.
