Graduation 2021

I can’t deny that I was a little bit disappointed because we don’t have a real graduation ceremony and I won’t get to see my son walk across the stage like I always dreamed of. Graduation day is one important event for every student and parent but because of this pandemic, we only have virtual graduation and no graduation pictures.

I’ve been looking forward to this once-in-a-lifetime event but life circumstances change so I have no other choice but to accept and adjust my life. I cannot just stop my life and wait until this global pandemic ends. So even though this graduation is a little bit different, it is still worth celebrating. I have to remind myself that there are things that I can do even I am stuck at home.

Last year, we don’t have Recognition Day so I’m still thankful for the Virtual Graduation. And I won’t let it pass without celebrating it so last week, I was preoccupied because I made a graduation card, gift tag, banner, cake topper, sticks, and video.

For the food, I just ordered Paella Valenciana PHP1160, Lengua Sevillana PHP1000 and cold cuts from Alba Restaurante. I prepared my son’s favorite which is charcuterie, he likes the chorizo de bilbao, butifarra, salchichon and pamplona. My husband bought Limoncello Torte Cake PHP1145and Dinner Roll PHP112 from Contis.

While I was making my son’s graduation video, I can’t help but cry, it is so true that life goes by in the blink of an eye. I suddenly miss my son during his childhood years and I can’t imagine na mukha na palang binata ang anak ko. I didn’t notice the big changes because we are together 24/7 since community quarantine started. All I knew that his voice and height changed pero yung sa face, ang laki na pala ng pagbabago from grade 5 to grade 6 pictures. I’m grateful for the photos that I took because I have memories that I can always look back on.

I watched the graduation video for the nth time because it is a testament to how my son gets one step closer to his dreams. It seems like yesterday when he graduated from Kindergarten and he told me “No Mommy, I want GOLD eagle”. Since then, I witnessed how my son strives to become better and he keeps on beating his own grade. Little by little he is learning, improving, growing, maturing, and working hard to achieve his goals.

That is the reason why I chose “The Climb” song for his video to remind him that “It’s not how he started, it’s how he finished”. I am so proud of him not only because he got GOLD Eagle Award but I’m proud of him because he keeps challenging himself. #beyourowncompetition Literal na climb kasi pataas ng pataas ang grade niya.

The Climb by Miley Cyrus

I can almost see it
That dream I'm dreaming
But, there's a voice inside my head saying
You'll never reach it

Every step I'm taking
Every move I make feels
Lost with no direction
My faith is shaking

But I, I gotta keep trying
Gotta keep my head held high

There's always gonna be another mountain
I'm always gonna wanna make it move
Always gonna be an uphill battle
Sometimes I'm gonna have to lose
Ain't about how fast I get there
Ain't about what's waiting on the other side
It's the climb

The struggles I'm facing
The chances I'm taking
Sometimes might knock me down, but
No, I'm not breaking

I may not know it
But these are the moments, that
I'm gonna remember most, yeah
Just gotta keep going
And I, I gotta be strong
Just keep pushing on, 'cause

There's always gonna be another mountain
I'm always gonna wanna make it move
Always gonna be an uphill battle
Sometimes I'm gonna have to lose
Ain't about how fast I get there
Ain't about what's waiting on the other side
It's the climb

Yeah

There's always gonna be another mountain
I'm always gonna wanna make it move
Always gonna be an uphill battle
Sometimes you're gonna have to lose
Ain't about how fast I get there
Ain't about what's waiting on the other side
It's the climb

Yeah, yeah

Keep on moving, keep climbing
Keep the faith, baby
It's all about, it's all about the climb
Keep your faith, keep your faith
Whoa

To my son, Congratulations, and always remember that I am always your number one cheerer and supporter. Do not be afraid to aim higher. We’re all rooting for you so keep going and keep climbing.

  1. It's nice how you still celebrated graduation at home and made it special.
