Where to Buy Travel Medical Insurance for Schengen Visa Application in the Philippines

When I was checking the requirements for Schengen Visa, I was surprised when I saw the travel medical insurance because as far as I can remember, I did not get this when I applied for Norwegian Visa when I was still studying. All I can remember is I only get a Certificate of Enrollment from my school and that’s it!

Now, travel medical insurance is a mandatory requirement if you are applying for Schengen Visa. To be honest, whenever we travel overseas, I do not get any travel insurance since our trip is more or less than a week. Travel insurance is an additional expense for our travel too so I’m just hoping and praying that our trip will be smooth. But it is very important to have travel insurance just to be sure that we are protected during our vacation.

I checked their rates and they are cheaper than Malayan Insurance Company. I was planning to go back to SM to buy the travel insurance but after what happened to my PSA order, I changed my mind kasi baka matagalan naman sa pagkuha ng policy. I haven't tried Pioneer Insurance Company and I can't find some reviews online.

We need the travel insurance as soon as possible so my husband and I decided to purchase our travel insurance at Malayan because we can order it online and we've tried it before. But in my future travel, I will consider Pioneer Insurance Company and I hope I can also buy this insurance online.

Update: March 2022

Pacific Cross

For our third Schengen Travel Insurance, I purchased our insurance at Pacific Cross. You may read this post ''Where to Buy Schengen Travel Insurance with COVID19" for more details.

  5. Hi, I've just purchased travel insurance from Malayan and they e-mailed me the master policy plus an attachment called Travel Master Insurance Wordings and the file contains "Comprehensive Travel Personal Accident Policy" etc. and on the 2nd page of this file theres a part that says "IN WITNESS WHEREOF, the company has caused this policy to be signed by its duly authorized officer/representative at etc, etc..." and requires an "authorized signature." Am I supposed to go to their headquarters or something to have it signed in order for it to be official and in effect? This part confused me because I had already paid and what's the point of processing online if I still have to make an appearance and set an appointment with and authorized official? Help please..thank you!

    1. Hi Angelica, I just checked my travel insurance that I bought last April, I saw the In Witness Whereof, that page has already a signature of the President so I did not go to any office.

  6. Hi, I just purchased the travel insurance from Malayan and I just noticed that the total sum insured is only P1,000,000 which is less than the minimum requirement of EUR30,000. I'm just confused that the embassy wouldn't accept this. Or is it the 2.5M coverage under the Medical Expense/Treatment cause it includes Worldwide Travel. Thanks!

    1. Hi Arvin, I think they check the total coverage. Malayan is part of their accredited insurance company so I guess there will no problem. I purchased and submitted Malayan Travel Insurance too and visa approved (VFS Norway).

  7. Hi, thank you very much for posting this on your blog. It is very helpful. I have one question and I hope you can give me an advice. I am actually just about to buy the insurance from Malayan and we plan to apply in Italy embassy. We will only go to Italy, but Embassy of Italy requires coverage in for the entire Europe. Should I tick Italy and Europe as the destination? or is ticking Italy enough?

    Thank you very much.

    1. Yes, Malayan is part of their accredited insurance company. We bought our insurance online at Malayan. With regards to plane ticket, we called KLM to reserve ticket. (No fee but good for 3 days only)

    2. So how much did you pay for the ticket po?

      Delete
    3. We did not pay anything for the booking via KLM. (Ticket reservation only) The price of airfare varies so it is better to check your preferred airlines for the price.

    4. Hi Michi! Is it okay to submit the reservation from KLM which will expire in 3 days? will the consul have no problem with it?

I've already scheduled my appointment for next month and I'm currently looking for options on how to get a ticket reservation.

      Thank you!

    5. Hi Mags, we submitted an expired booking reservation from KLM and our visas were approved. This was our experience at VFS Norway so I’m not sure for other VFS. But if you want, call KLM or your preferred airline to reserve a ticket, day or 2 days before your appointment.

  10. Thank you mam for your nice article. 2 po yung nagamit ko na travel insurance papunta Sweden . First po ang Pacific Cross. Wala naman ako magiging comment masyado dhil wala naman akong claim that time. Sa 2nd trip ko po sa Sweden din ay Malayan Insurance. Nagkaproblema ako sa baggage. Naiwanan sa Singapore and after 2 days saka nadeliver sa akin. 6weeks bago ako nakabalik sa Pilipinas and it took me 2mos bago nakakuha ng claim sa kanila. Nahirapan po talaga ako sa pag ff up. Kaya ngayon, nagaayos ako uli ng byahe, ttry ko ang Pioneer Insurance😀

    1. Thanks for sharing your experience. Parang mahirap nga magclaim sa Malayan kasi may nabasa din ako sa iba na nahirapan naman makacontact nung nagkasakit during travel. Good thing, okay naman biyahe namin kasi Malayan nabili ko sa mga past travel.
