Where to Stay in Singapore: Our Unexpected Stay at Siloso Beach Resort

Some of the best things in life are unexpected.

That was exactly what happened during our 9-day adventure to Singapore, Batam, Indonesia, and a Disney Cruise. I had everything planned out, or so I thought.

Our original plan was simple: spend our first night at Robertson Quay Hotel, then return there for another two nights after our trip to Batam. Since we were leaving for Batam the following day, I had already planned our first-day itinerary around the hotel. After checking in, we were supposed to settle our things and head out for a food trip at Lau Pa Sat.

But sometimes, the best travel memories are the ones that were never part of the itinerary.

An Unexpected Upgrade

While checking in at Robertson Quay Hotel, one of the staff members told us about a promo they were offering that day. They asked if we would like to try their other property in Sentosa, which is Siloso Beach Resort.

I was so surprised that it took me a moment to process what she had just said. She patiently explained the offer, and I told her, “Give me a moment to think about it.”

Of course, there were a few things to consider. I had booked a room for three people, while the room at Siloso Beach Resort had only two single beds. That meant it could be a little tight for the three of us. We also already had an itinerary, and more importantly, we were leaving for Batam the next day.

So, nag-meeting muna kami ni hubby. I checked the resort's location, reviewed our schedule, and confirmed whether this unexpected change would work. After a quick discussion, we decided to take the chance.
And just like that, we said yes to the upgrade.

Siloso Beach Resort is tucked away along Siloso Beach in Sentosa, one of Singapore's popular island destinations. Compared with the urban atmosphere of staying in the city, the resort offered something completely different: lush greenery, a tropical setting, and the beach just a few steps away.

It wasn't the kind of place I had originally planned to stay in, and maybe that's what made it more exciting.

Not Exactly Prepared for the Spontaneous Change

The funny part was, we weren't even fully prepared for this spontaneous change. Good thing I had organized our luggage per day. We left two pieces of luggage at Robertson Quay Hotel and brought only one with us to Siloso Beach Resort, together with the things we needed for our Batam trip the following day.

The clothes were prepared, but there was one problem: my shoes and slippers were in a different piece of luggage. And dahil sa pagmamadali namin, nagkamali pa ako ng kuha sa shoe storage. I thought I had grabbed our slippers but extra shoes pala! Toink!

Anyway, we took a taxi from Robertson Quay Hotel to Siloso Beach Resort, and as we made our way to Sentosa, I still couldn't quite believe that our original itinerary had suddenly changed.
Just a few hours earlier, I was planning a food trip at Lau Pa Sat. Now, we were heading to a resort by Siloso Beach.

I had never really considered booking a resort in Sentosa because, in my mind, accommodations there were expensive. Yet somehow, we ended up staying there, not because I planned it months in advance, but because of a last-minute opportunity during check-in.

Our Short but Sweet Stay at Siloso Beach Resort

We arrived at Siloso Beach Resort quite late. After checking in, we went straight to our room to leave our things.

The first thing I noticed was the atmosphere. The resort felt completely different from the city. It was surrounded by lush greenery and had a relaxed, tropical feel. Despite being in one of Singapore's popular tourist destinations, the surroundings felt peaceful and removed from the busy streets.

Our room was simple and comfortable. As mentioned earlier, it had two single beds for the three of us, so yes, masikip for three people. But considering that this wasn't even part of our original plan, we didn't mind too much.
We weren't looking for luxury during this unexpected stay. We were simply excited to experience Sentosa and make the most of the little time we had.

The resort also had a swimming pool surrounded by greenery. Unfortunately, we didn't get to use it. Sayang talaga, there simply wasn't enough time to enjoy the resort's facilities. If we had stayed longer, I would have definitely spent some time by the pool. But our schedule had other plans.

So instead of spending the evening at the pool, we decided to take a quick look around and head to the beach.

A Quick Visit to Siloso Beach

Of course, if you're staying at Siloso Beach Resort, you can't leave without actually seeing Siloso Beach.

By the time we went out, it was almost sunset. The beach was calm, and the atmosphere was incredibly relaxing. The sound of the waves, the cool breeze, and the greenery surrounding the resort made the whole experience feel like a little tropical escape.

Dinner at the Resort

After spending some time by the beach, we decided to have dinner at the resort. We were already tired from our flight from Manila, and knowing that we had an early boat trip to Batam the next morning, we didn't want to travel far just to find somewhere to eat.

One detail I noticed during dinner also stayed with me. Some of the staff assisting us were persons with disabilities (PWDs). I appreciated seeing an inclusive workplace where people with different abilities were given opportunities to work and be part of the hospitality team.

A Quick Morning in Sentosa

The next morning was another race against time. We didn't have breakfast at the resort because the breakfast opening time didn't fit our schedule. My son also had his morning classes, and we needed to leave early for our trip to Batam.

So, no fancy breakfast for us. We simply bought some bread and noodles from 7-Eleven and had a quick breakfast before getting ready to leave.

Since we were already in Sentosa, though, we wanted to make the most of the little time we had left. We explored some nearby tourist spots before checking out at around 9:00 AM.

Was the Unexpected Stay Worth It?

Our stay at Siloso Beach Resort was short. We arrived late, checked in, explored the beach, had dinner, slept, grabbed a quick breakfast, did a little sightseeing, and checked out. That was it.

But even in that short amount of time, the experience gave us something our original itinerary couldn't: a completely unexpected change of scenery.

What was supposed to be a city stay near Robertson Quay suddenly became a tropical escape in Sentosa. We went from planning a food trip at Lau Pa Sat to walking along Siloso Beach. We went from worrying about our itinerary to simply going with the flow.

Was everything perfect? No. The room was a little tight for three people, we didn't have enough time to enjoy the resort facilities, and I didn't even have the right slippers with me!

But that's also part of the story. Our stay wasn't about having the perfect resort vaca
tion. It was about saying yes to an unexpected opportunity and making the most of the time we had.

And the best part? We knew we weren't saying goodbye to Sentosa just yet. We would be back on Day 4 of our trip for the Skyline Luge and Universal Studios Singapore.

It was just our first unexpected glimpse of Sentosa and a reminder that sometimes, the best parts of a trip are the ones you never planned.

Where to Stay in Bohol: Our Stay at The Bellevue Bohol Resort

Looking back, the first time we visited Bohol, we stayed at Metrocentre Hotel and enjoyed a day trip to Panglao Island Nature Resort and Spa. Seventeen years later, we finally had the chance to return to this beautiful province, and this time we stayed at The Bellevue Bohol Resort.

We previously celebrated a birthday staycation at The Bellevue Manila and had a wonderful experience, so I was hoping we'd receive the same warm hospitality in Bohol. One thing we immediately appreciated was the resort's location on Doljo Beach. Since it's away from the busier areas of Panglao, the atmosphere is much quieter and more relaxing.

As I mentioned in one of my previous posts, the resort was offering a PHP 23,999 nett package for a two-night stay, which included:

Buffet breakfast for two
Round-trip airport transfers
PHP 1,500 tour rebate
One-hour full-body massage for two at Azurea Spa

For our family trip, however, we booked a Deluxe Room for PHP 9,500 per night, plus PHP 2,500 per night for an additional guest.

Our room rate included:

Daily buffet breakfast for two
Complimentary round-trip airport shuttle
Use of the swimming pool and fitness gym
Complimentary kayak use
Access to the game room
Free Wi-Fi
Welcome drinks
Access to the children's activity center

Although we only booked a Deluxe Room, we were pleasantly surprised when the staff informed us that we had been upgraded. Our room and bathroom were much more spacious and overlooked the garden. It turned out to be the perfect room, especially since we were traveling with two senior citizens.

When we entered our room, another surprise was waiting for us: a towel cake and a complimentary birthday cake. It reminded me of our birthday staycation at The Bellevue Manila, where we had to buy our own birthday cake. Looking back, I realized that both of our Bellevue stays happened while celebrating my husband's birthday. It was a nice coincidence that made the trip even more memorable.

We booked two rooms during our stay. One was for our family, while the other was for the senior citizens traveling with us.

Unfortunately, an unexpected incident happened on our first night at the resort. Because of this, we requested to transfer to another room, which meant giving up our complimentary upgrade. Our new room was smaller and no longer had a garden view, but we appreciated how the staff assisted us throughout the transfer.

The Bellevue Bohol Resort offers plenty of facilities, including an infinity pool, fitness gym, game room, children's play area, and Azurea Spa.

The resort also has several complimentary activities for guests. During our stay, we enjoyed
free kayak use and the Glass Bottom Boat Ride, both of which were fun.

The resort has two restaurants, Lamian and Marea, where we had our breakfast, lunch, and dinner. If you'd like to know more about the food, you can also read my other blog posts:

Despite the unexpected incident during our first night, we still had an enjoyable stay. The little touches made a big difference, from the welcome drinks and native necklace souvenirs to the midnight snacks, complimentary activities, birthday cakes served both in our room and at the restaurant, a 10% dining discount voucher, and complimentary drinks or dessert.

Even if you don't have any tours planned, you'll still find plenty of things to do within the resort, making it a great place to simply relax and unwind. Most importantly, the staff consistently provided excellent service from the moment we arrived until we headed home.

Overall, our stay at The Bellevue Bohol Resort was a memorable one. While no trip is ever perfect, the resort's comfortable accommodations, relaxing atmosphere, thoughtful gestures, and excellent customer service made our family vacation in Bohol one to remember.

Day 1: Manila to Tagbilaran - Returning to Bohol After 17 Years

Some places become more meaningful with time.

Seventeen years ago, I visited Bohol for the very first time with my husband. Although the trip was short, it introduced me to the island's beautiful beaches and lush countryside, leaving memories that stayed with me through the years. I never imagined it would take nearly two decades before I returned.

This time, the journey felt even more special. Instead of traveling as newlyweds, I was returning with our son and two senior citizens for a four-day family vacation. It's a different season of life, and I was excited to experience Bohol from a new perspective, sharing familiar places with my son while making sure everyone could enjoy the trip at a comfortable pace.

Our adventure began with a flight from Manila to Tagbilaran. It started with an unexpected delay that left us with almost six hours at the airport. We made the most of the waiting time by having breakfast at Ka Tunying's. I ordered the Chicken Adobo while my son had the Beef Tapa meal. I can’t remember what my husband ate because I don’t have a picture.

While exploring the terminal, I couldn't resist stopping by a pasalubong shop. I picked up Mulach Ensaymada, Polvoron, and Polland Hopia for our snacks during the trip.

As compensation for the delayed flight, Philippine Airlines served Chickenjoy meals for lunch, which was a nice gesture.

Once we were finally in the air, the flight itself took a little over an hour. Before landing, we were served Salted Caramel Cookies with a choice of coffee, tea, or water.

Arriving at Bohol-Panglao International Airport

One of the first things I noticed after landing was how much the airport had changed since my first visit in 2007.

Back then, Tagbilaran Airport was a small domestic airport with a simple terminal. There wasn't even a baggage carousel; we simply waited while airport staff brought out our luggage for passengers to collect. It had its own charm, but it was a completely different experience.

Fast forward to 2024, and we arrived at the modern Bohol-Panglao International Airport. The spacious terminal, organized baggage claim area, and upgraded facilities immediately reflected how much Bohol's tourism and infrastructure have grown over the past 17 years.

Less than 30 minutes after landing, we were already on our way to The Bellevue Resort using their complimentary round-trip airport shuttle. The resort is only about 10 to 15 minutes from the airport, making the transfer quick and convenient.

The Bellevue Bohol Resort

Upon arrival, we were welcomed with native necklaces and refreshing welcome drinks. After checking in and settling our balance, the front desk surprised us with a complimentary room upgrade. It was a wonderful way to start our stay.

The surprises didn't end there. When we entered our room, we found a towel cake decoration and a complimentary birthday cake waiting for us since it was my husband's birthday week. It was such a thoughtful gesture from the hotel.

We didn't have any activities planned for our first day. After the long delay at the airport, all we wanted was to relax, enjoy the resort, and recharge for our island tour the following day.

Luau Night Buffet

Since it was the weekend, The Bellevue Resort was hosting its Luau Night Buffet for PHP 1,288 per person. They also had a "5+1" promo, but since our group only had five people, we couldn't take advantage of the free buffet.

The dinner was enjoyable, with a wide selection of food and live entertainment. Guests were treated to a fire dance performance, and we even got the chance to participate. It was a little scary at first, but it turned out to be a fun and memorable experience. A live band completed the festive atmosphere, making it a wonderful way to spend our first evening in Bohol.

When we returned to our room after dinner, another pleasant surprise was waiting for us: a complimentary midnight snack of kutsinta with freshly grated coconut. It was a simple yet thoughtful gesture before calling it a night.

An Unexpected Incident

Overall, it had been a wonderful first day. We went to bed early since we had an early countryside tour scheduled for the next morning.

However, at around 9:00 PM, someone knocked on our door. My husband woke me up and said that my aunt was calling for me. Still half asleep, I got up and opened the door, expecting to see one of my relatives.

Instead, I was greeted by a man I had never seen before. He didn't say a word and appeared to be holding up his phone as if he was taking a photo or recording a video. Startled and confused, I immediately closed the door.

The following morning, we reported the incident to the front desk, and we were informed that the man was also a hotel guest.

Later, my aunt and my mom told me they had experienced something similar that same evening. Someone had also knocked on their door. Thinking it was me, they called out my name, but the knocking suddenly stopped. That's when I realized my husband had probably heard my name being called and assumed it was my aunt outside our room, which was why he woke me up when someone knocked.

Although nothing else happened after that, the experience left us feeling uneasy. We requested to move to another room for our peace of mind, even though it meant giving up our complimentary room upgrade. Even now, whenever I think about it, I still get annoyed by what happened.
