Discovering KKV at Southwoods Mall

A few months ago, I met up with a friend who had just come back from the USA for a vacation. While waiting for her to arrive, another friend suggested that we visit KKV, a lifestyle store I had recently discovered.

KKV is known for its wide selection of products that are trendy, fun, and affordable. It’s quite similar to Miniso, Japan Home, Daiso, and other concept stores. The shop offers skincare, cosmetics, personal care essentials, snacks, stationery, and a variety of lifestyle finds. It’s the kind of place where you can easily lose track of time because there’s just so much to see.

During our visit, I enjoyed browsing the aisles and checking out different brands and products. Even though I left without buying anything, I knew I’d come back, especially when I need gift ideas or simply want to explore new finds.

Here are some photos I took during our visit.

Cutting Through the Mess: What a Chainsaw Can Really Do in Your Yard

A messy yard feels hard to deal with until the right tool shows up. A chainsaw is one of those tools that makes heavy jobs feel simple. It is not only for cutting down big trees. It handles small and medium tasks all over the yard with speed and control when used the right way. With a calm plan, a few safety steps, and the right-sized saw, yard cleanups stop dragging on and start getting done.

What a Chainsaw Handles in a Typical Yard

Most yard work with a chainsaw falls into a few clear jobs. The first is trimming fallen branches after a storm. Dry, cracked limbs on the ground cut fast and stack neatly when cut to short lengths. The second is limbing—removing branches from a trunk on the ground. This helps turn a mess into tidy piles for the curb, compost, or a fire pit. The third is pruning thick branches still on the tree. A saw with a short bar makes careful pruning faster than a hand saw when a limb is too thick to cut by hand.

There are other useful tasks, too. Cutting firewood to length for a patio fire pit is simple once logs are measured and marked. Landscape timbers and rough posts cut clean when a saw is sharp and the piece is supported. Cleaning out scrub brush along a fence line or behind a shed becomes doable when vines and woody stems are too tough for loppers.

The key is to match the job to the saw. Small saws manage branches and light logs. Medium saws handle thicker wood without feeling heavy.

Picking the Right Type for the Job

There are three common types: gas, corded electric, and battery. Gas saws have strong power and long run time with fuel on hand, but they are loud and need more upkeep. Corded electric saws run quietly and never run out of juice, yet the cord limits where they can go. Battery saws balance both sides. They are quick to start, light to carry, and quiet enough for close neighbors.

Bar length matters. A 10–12-inch bar suits pruning and small logs. A 14–16-inch bar covers most yard jobs, including medium branches and light firewood. Large bars are for large trees and should be left to trained users.

For light yard work, a battery chainsaw can be a smart choice—quiet, low upkeep, and easy to handle; other trusted options exist, too, so pick what fits the job and budget.

Weight and balance count. A saw that feels steady in both hands helps control. Look for a chain brake, a clear chain-oil window, and a trigger safety. These features make the use calmer and safer.

Safety Basics Everyone Can Follow

Good habits make a big difference. Wear eye protection to block chips, ear protection for noise, gloves for grip, long pants, and boots with solid tread. Tie back long hair and remove jewelry. Keep both hands on the saw. Stand with feet apart and knees slightly bent for balance.

Check the chain before cutting. It should be sharp, oiled, and set to the right tension. A properly tensioned chain lifts slightly from the bar tip but snaps back. Fill bar oil before each session. A dry chain heats up and dulls fast.

Start with a clear plan. Look for nails, wire, or rocks in the wood. Notice where a log is supported so it will not pinch the bar. Never cut above shoulder height. Avoid using a saw on a ladder. Keep bystanders and pets away. If working with another person, only one should cut while the other stays clear and helps move cut pieces after the saw stops.

Know the kickback zone. The upper tip of the bar can kick back if it contacts wood the wrong way. Keep that area free from contact. Engage the chain brake when taking steps or moving to a new cut.

Stop and reassess if the wood binds, the cut closes on the bar, or the log shifts. Wedges help keep a kerf open. Slow, steady cuts keep things safe.

Smart Yard Projects That Benefit From a Saw

Pruning overhanging limbs is a common need. Pick one branch at a time. Make a small undercut a few inches from the trunk, then cut from the top a little farther out. This prevents bark tearing. Finish with a clean cut near the branch collar so the tree can heal.

Cleaning a fence line saves hours later. Cut woody stems to just above ground, gather them into bundles, and carry them out. For thick, tangled vines, slice in sections to avoid pulling on the fence mesh.

Turning logs into easy-to-carry rounds helps with storage and hauling. Mark 14–16 inch lengths for firewood or shorter for campfire rings. Support the log on a stand or between blocks so the saw does not hit soil.

Making simple garden pieces is possible with care. Landscape edging from short log sections looks natural. Rustic stools or a small bench from thick rounds add charm to a corner. Keep designs simple and cut square.

Maintenance That Keeps the Saw Ready

A well-kept saw cuts cleaner and safer. Sharpen the chain when it starts making dust instead of chips, pulls to one side, or needs force to cut. A few strokes with the right file restore the edge. Keep the rakers set properly so the teeth bite but do not grab.

Top off the bar oil every time the battery or fuel is filled. Clean debris from the bar groove and oil port. Flip the bar now and then to wear it evenly. Check the drive sprocket for wear.

For battery saws, store batteries in a cool, dry place at a partial charge when not in use. Avoid direct sun or freezing temps. For gas models, use fresh fuel and add stabilizer if storing longer than a month. Run the saw dry before long storage.

Wipe down the saw after use and install the scabbard over the bar. Coil extension cords (for corded models) neatly and store them off the floor.

When to Stop and Call a Pro

Not every job belongs in a home toolbox. Anything near power lines is off-limits. Trees with heavy lean toward a house, car, or fence are high risk. Storm-damaged trees under tension can spring or twist. Large trunks, hanging “widowmaker” branches, and any cutting that needs climbing or a ladder should be left to trained crews. Back away, mark the area, and get help.

Technique Tips for Clean, Easy Cuts

Let the saw do the work. Keep the chain speed up and apply light, steady pressure. If the cut starts to pinch, stop and insert a wedge before going deeper. When cutting a log on the ground, place it on supports so the bar does not hit the soil. Soil dulls a chain fast.

Understand compression and tension in the wood. If a log sags in the middle, cut from the top partway, then finish from the bottom to avoid binding. If it is supported in the middle and the ends hang, cut from the bottom first, then finish from the top. Small changes in approach prevent stuck bars and rough cuts.

For pruning, keep cuts small and controlled. Avoid flush cuts against the trunk; that harms the tree. Do not remove too many large limbs at once. Trees need leaves to stay healthy.

Choosing Size Without Guesswork

A simple rule helps: match bar length to the largest wood you plan to cut, and keep a margin. Cutting a 10-inch branch with a 14–16-inch bar feels comfortable. If most work is 4–8 inches in diameter, a compact saw handles it well. A lighter saw that gets used is better than a heavy one that stays on the shelf.

Balance the battery pack or fuel tank size with the work pace. Two batteries allow swapping while one charges. With gas, plan breaks for rest and to check the chain oil. Quiet time is not wasted time; it keeps the job safe and focused.

Keeping the Yard Cleaner After You Cut

Plan piles before starting. Set one spot for branches, one for logs, and one for brush. Cut to size right away so stacks do not topple. Sweep or rake the area between cuts to keep the footing clear. Load a wheelbarrow or garden cart in layers so it moves without wobbling.

If the city offers pickup for yard waste, check size limits and bundle rules. Tied bundles are easier for crews to handle. If composting, avoid glossy leaves or diseased wood. Dry, clean chips and small twigs break down well.

Final Thoughts and Simple Next Steps

A chainsaw earns its place by saving time and effort on jobs that are too big for hand tools. When matched to the task, cared for, and used with steady habits, it turns storm mess, rough branches, and heavy logs into neat piles and quick projects. Start with the size that fits the yard, wear the right gear, and practice clean, small cuts before moving to bigger work.

Have a yard job in mind? Make a quick plan: what to cut, where to stack, and how to stay safe. Share questions or tricky yard problems, and tips can be offered to help pick the right approach. With a calm pace and good technique, the path from tangled to tidy is shorter than it seems.

How To Get The Most Out Of Your Motorbike When Going Long Distances

Long-distance motorbike trips offer a unique blend of adventure, freedom, and connection to the open road. Whether you're cruising cross-country or exploring scenic byways, optimizing your motorbike's performance and ensuring your comfort can make all the difference. This is how to get the most out of your motorbike on those extended journeys.

Prep Your Bike for the Road

Before setting off, make sure your bike is in top mechanical condition. Conduct a full inspection or take it to a trusted mechanic for a pre-trip check-up. Pay particular attention to:

A well-maintained bike is not only safer but also more fuel-efficient and comfortable for long-distance riding.

Invest in Comfort Upgrades

Even the most passionate rider can feel the strain of long hours in the saddle. Investing in comfort upgrades can drastically improve your endurance:

  • Padded or gel seat covers help reduce pressure and discomfort.
  • Cruise control or throttle locks allow your hand to relax on long stretches.
  • Handlebar risers improve posture and reduce shoulder strain.
  • Windshields protect against fatigue from wind resistance.

Plan Smart, Ride Smart

Strategic planning helps you avoid unnecessary stress and fatigue. Use GPS apps specifically designed for motorcycles or ride planners that take into account scenic routes, fuel stops, and rest areas. Aim for:

Daily mileage goals that match your comfort and experience.
Regular breaks every 1 to 2 hours to hydrate, stretch, and rest.
Weather monitoring to avoid riding through dangerous conditions.

Being flexible with your schedule is also important. Enjoy the ride, not just the destination.

Pack Efficiently

Packing light is crucial on a motorcycle, but that doesn't mean skimping on essentials. Use saddlebags, tank bags, or tail bags for storage. Prioritize:

  • Weather-appropriate gear, including waterproofs.
  • Tool kits and spare parts for minor roadside fixes.
  • First-aid supplies, snacks, and hydration.
  • Navigation tools like your phone, chargers, and mounts.

A well-organized pack minimizes time spent searching for items and maximizes convenience.

Know When to Ship, Not Ride

Sometimes, riding your motorbike to a distant location is not the most practical option. This is especially true if you're attending an event, relocating, or avoiding unfavorable weather conditions. In such cases, consider professional transport services. For example, if you're heading to or from the Mid-Atlantic region, Delaware motorcycle shipping offers a convenient way to get your bike where it needs to be without putting miles or wear on it.

Shipping your motorbike can also be useful if you're planning to fly to your destination and ride locally once there. This allows you to experience new roads without the exhausting trek.

Stay Mindful of Your Body and Mind

Long-distance riding demands mental and physical stamina. Stay well-fed, hydrated, and rested. Stretch during breaks, and don't ignore signs of fatigue. Drowsy riding is dangerous. Stay present and alert, especially on unfamiliar roads.

With the right preparation and mindset, long-distance motorcycle trips can be some of the most rewarding experiences for any rider. Treat your bike and yourself well, and every mile becomes part of the adventure.

Parking at Park N Fly

We used to park our car at Park N Fly before but for convenience, we went back to NAIA parking kasi literal na magpark and fly ka na lang. Unlike in Park N fly na maghintay pa kami ng airport shuttle.

But last month, NAIA announced the new parking rates, from PHP300 to PHP1,200 for overnight rates. Waah! That is so expensive so nastress ako bigla because we will be flying to Melbourne, Australia. We live outside Metro Manila so mahirap magcommute.

I was contemplating kung saan ba kami makakamura because NAIA parking is no longer an option. My choices are:

1. Rent a van
2. Take Ube Express P2P Bus
3. Park N Fly

But my husband chose the Park N fly so nagbabalik loob na kami sa Park N Fly. My husband immediately made a reservation online. 50% downpayment to reserve a slot.

Note:
  • Park ‘N Fly has a minimum rate of ₱595 (VAT Inclusive) for the first 24 hours, and then a rate of ₱24.79 (VAT Inclusive) for each hour after that. For the purpose of rate calculations, a fraction of an hour is considered to be a full hour. Parking rates are subject to change without prior notice.
  • Park ‘N Fly offers a 5% discount for customers who avail of parking for 7 days or more, and a 10% discount for customers who avail of parking for 30 days or more.
  • Park ‘N Fly Free Shuttle Service provides free transportation from Park ‘N Fly to, from, and between the four (4) airport terminals.
  • Customers should allot at least 30 minutes on top of their regular schedules when checking into Park ‘N Fly.
During our trip, we left early because we knew that there was an additional 30-minute to 1-hour waiting time at the Park N Fly. Based on our experience, from the time we arrived, we waited for 40 minutes for the airport shuttle service.

Park N Fly has new building na pala, doon kami pinapunta ng guard. The office is much bigger and may Convenience Store & Pasalubong Center

They also offer “Complete vehicle maintenance and repairs, including detailing/cleaning packages available”. My husband availed the car wash kaya shining and shimmering ang sasakyan namin pag-uwi.

Upon arrival, after claiming our luggage my husband called Park N Fly Shuttle Service to pick us up at Bay 6 - NAIA Terminal 1. I think we waited for 30 minutes before the airport shuttle service arrived.

Shopping at Doyle and Furnham Store

Hello May! No blog for a week because we’re still adjusting to our new home. Yes, we finally moved in so we’re still busy unpacking and organizing our stuff. It feels like forever parang hindi natatapos ang paglilipat. Hindi pa namin nalilipat lahat ng gamit but it can wait naman since hindi naman essentials yung mga naiwan sa kabilang bahay like Christmas decor, books, toys and others.

I miss blogging and sa dami ng gusto kong iblog hindi ko alam kung ano uunahin. I checked my previous posts so I already shared Uratex and Mandaue Foam so this time Doyle and Furnham naman.

I discovered this store last year and I learned that this company is a hotel supplier. Doyle and Furnham provide stuff like bed sheets, towels, pillows, and others to hotels, resorts, and hospitals. It was the year 2020 when the owner decided to extend their product to consumers so people like us could buy quality bed sheets, towels, bath mats, bath robes, and other stuff that we commonly use if we stay in a hotel.

You can purchase their products on Doyle and Furnham's website, Shopee, Lazada, Foodpanda, Edamama, and their physical store which is located at Gate 3 Plaza, Taguig.

I was happy when I learned about this store because whenever we stay in a 5-star hotel or resort, nacucurious talaga ko kung saan ba binibili yung mga bedsheets and pillows. So finally, may mabibilhan na rin.

Sleep is life so I really invest in bed, pillows, and good quality bed sheets. I tried different brands na rin kaso ang hirap maghanap ng white sheets na same sa hotel. Doyle and Furnham sheets are made of hypoallergenic material, high-grade Pakistani Cotton, 300 Thread Count (100% Cotton), and OEKO-TEX certified free of harsh chemicals.

For the past several months, I’ve been reading and hearing good reviews about their products pero hindi pa ko makabili because I know that we are buying a new bed. So after buying a bed from Uratex and a bed frame from Mandaue Foam, it is time to buy bed sheets and pillows.

Since the price is not cheap, I wanted to visit their store so I could personally see and feel the products. I searched for the operating hours and nakita ko 9AM but we arrived around 10AM, parking is limited so ang tagal namin naghintay bago makapag-park. The store is still closed so I checked their Facebook page and I found out na 11AM pala ang store opening. Yung office pala nila ang 9AM. Toink!

But the guard told us, try daw namin tawagan kasi kapag alam nila na may customer, binubuksan naman nila ng maaga. So my husband called a few times, nung una wala pa sumasagot, I think on our third try may sumagot na and yun nga nagpunta na sila sa store. It was around 10:30AM pa lang so we were happy na hindi na kami maghihintay pa ng 11AM.

The store is just small, buti na lang kami lang ang nandoon so hindi masikip and naassist kami ng maayos. I already knew what I wanted so hindi naman mahirap mamili. I purchased the Starter Set + additional Pillow Cases, Duvet Comforter Set + additional Duvet Cover, Goose Down Pillow + Large Pillow Cases, and their new product which is the Summer Bliss Collection.

The advantage of buying from the store is, makukuha mo agad yung products, also yung ibang wala sa website, pwede mo maorder basta meron materials. Like goose down pillow, nakabili ako sa store pero wala sa website.

The only products that are available at the store are the Summer Bliss Collections and the rest, hinintay namin magawa and madeliver from their factory which is just a few minutes walk from their store, so mainit-init pa yung bedsheets nung nareceived namin. I love their packaging, hindi plastic so I can reuse it.

The store also provides complimentary drinks while waiting, they offer coffee, tea or softdrinks.

I already ordered when the staff informed me na meron sila freebie if we purchased PHP10K above and dahil marami daw ako binili and first buyer din ako sa Summer Bliss Collection, may free tumbler pa ako.

So far, hindi umaangat yung bed sheets kahit bitin.

We have duvet and comforter na rin before pero bumili pa rin ako so I can compare and feeling nasa hotel nga yung duvet infill nila. Iba rin yung fabric and stitches. If I have the budget, I will replace my son’s duvet too. So far, I am satisfied with my purchase.

Shopping at Bee Happy Crafts Store: Clearance Sale

For the past several days, I have been busy packing, unpacking, and organizing my mini craft room. I’m so exhausted but at the same time happy because finally, I already have my own space. I will share about it in a separate post because I’m not yet finished moving my craft supplies, tools, and machines to our new house.

Speaking of craft supplies, over a week ago I had a chance to visit the Bee Happy Crafts store in Caloocan because I attended the Bee Happy Crafts 12th Anniversary Party. The store is more than 60km away from our place so it was a long drive, thanks to my husband and son who accompanied and patiently waited for me until the party ended.

And because it was my first time, I spent my time checking the Clearance Sale section. Ang dami nakasale pero nagfocus ako sa stamps, embossing folders, and paper na hindi available sa Clerance Sale sa website nila. I love clearance sales because I can score items at a perfect price, sharing the items that I got.

Lawn Fawn Celebration Scripty Saying PHP250 (PHP780)
Lawn Fawn Chit Chat PHP250 (PHP780)
Avery Elle Numbered Balloons PHP250 (PHP775)
Lifestyle Crafts Tea Party Embossing FolderPHP250 (PHP499)
The Project Life Southern Weddings Embossing Folders PHP200 (PHP395)
Precious Marieke The Nature of Christmas Embossing Folder PHP200 ($6.99)
Shimelle Sparkle City 6x8 Paper Pad PHP250 ($6.99)

Some items have no original price stickers so I have to search for their price online so I have an idea of the price difference. I still have a long must-buy list from their clearance sale, budget na lang kulang. I just hope, hindi ako maubusan. Hehehe!

Shopping at Mandaue Foam Las Piñas City

For the last several days, we’re spending most of our time in our new house, parang hindi matapos-tapos yung paglilipat at pag-aayos. Pagod na pagod na yung katawang lupa ko kakapack, unpack at organize pero wala naman ibang gagawa kaya push lang.

This week, back to online classes ulit ang anak ko so I will take advantage of this time to blog habang may stable internet pa kami. After class, maglilipat ulit kami ng gamit. If money is not an issue, parang gusto ko na lang lumipat at bumili na lang lahat ng bago pero masakit na nga sa bulsa yung pagbili namin ng ibang gamit sa bahay. Hehehe!

Anyway, I mentioned in my other post that we did not buy a bed frame at Uratex Alabang Showroom so we visited the Mandaue Foam Store in Alabang. Feeling ko kasi mas marami mabibili doon kaysa sa Sta. Rosa branch nila. I’m also thankful na meron sila sale during our visit kasi laking tipid din yung 30% off discount. I think the sale is until May 12, 2024 so if you are planning to buy something, visit their store.

We purchased a sofa set, dining set, bed frame, coffee table, lights, and ironing board. Some of the items that we purchased were not available so it took them two weeks to deliver all the items. We paid PHP3,050 for the delivery fee, ang mahal pero inisip ko na lang, wala naman bayad yung pag-assemble. They just delivered the items yesterday and will return to assemble the dining set, bed frame, and coffee table later.

Update: Scheduled time is 4-6PM. The installers (two persons) arrived quarter to 6PM and finished around 7:30PM.

Just like our last visit, they still have complimentary drinks for the client. Hindi ko ito napansin sa Sta. Rosa branch nila, I will check nga on my next visit.
