Zoobic Lodge

I won Zoobic Safari Package last month, the package includes 5 entrance tickets, 5 free rides and 1 overnight package in Zoobic Lodge. I got excited because I haven’t stayed in this hotel so I immediately search for it. I have no idea that the zoo offer rooms too because the last time that we went to Subic, we stayed in Camayan Beach Resort.

I was having a hard time in getting information even the website have limited information and photos of Zoobic Lodge. Then I found out that Zoobic Lodge a.k.a. Tiara Hotel is the former Crown Peak Homes. Waah!, I stayed here 14 years ago, yes more than a decade already. I went here with my college friends. My excitement was gone already because I know it was already an old hotel. I’ve been reading reviews pa na it looks creepy, knowing me na sobrang matatakutin and I don’t watch horror movies nga, parang I don’t want to go na. But my husband said, sayang and kasama naman daw siya.

So I asked my husband to call the office to check if we could use the gift certificate even on weekends. There was a note kasi na “not valid for weekends and holidays”. The staff said yes because there is an available room. Day before the trip, my husband called to confirm our reservation and he was surprised because there was no reservation under his name. We emailed the gift certificate to reserve and still no reply. My husband called again to follow up and reserve na nga daw.

We really hoped that it was really reserved but we prepared ourselves for worst scenario, just in case makalimutan ulit. That is the reason why after our Zoobic Safari tour we went immediately to Zoobic Lodge, to check if we could check-in because if not, we will just go home.

Good thing that our room was really reserved. After watching the Animal Parade in Zoobic Safari, we went back to Zoobic Lodge. The hotel was really old and I was praying na sana marami kami nagcheck-in. #paranoid

I must agree with other reviews because I find the place creepy. Everything is old and really need an improvement. Actually, the room is big, it has a kitchen with fridge, you have an extra bed pa, Thank God that the aircon is working fine.

The bathroom has hot and cold shower, it has a bathtub but you can’t use it kasi wala naman pantakip sa butas. Lol I thought they won’t provide towels but they deliver it to our room without asking. Soap, toothbrush and toilet paper for toiletries.

Zoobic Lodge has a mini restaurant where you can eat so we did not go out anymore for dinner. There is wi-fi too in the restaurant but I haven’t tried it.

P95, grilled liempo for my son and porkchop for me +iced tea

P85, one veggie and one meat + iced tea
I told my husband that we will go home after breakfast but he promised my son that they will swim. Around 7AM my husband asked the staff what time open ng pool, he was informed 8AM kasi lilinisin pa daw niya pool. So we had morning walk around the area while waiting for 8AM.

We went down and only to find out that the pool was still closed. My husband looked for the staff and was told na 9AM pa daw at maglilinis pa. My son cried already because he wanted to swim but we have no choice but to wait.

Ready to swim na but still closed
We went back to our room, I took a bath and persuading my son to take a bath too so we can go home. But he was determined to wait til 9AM so he could swim. At 9AM, they went to the pool and it was still closed. And the staff was eating and saying, mamaya na bumalik na lang kayo at maglilinis pa nga. Oh my goodness, we wasted our two hours waiting for the pool, I don’t understand bakit ayaw niya iopen. Maglilinis pa? Two hours na nagdaan, ni hindi naman niya ginawa. #lokohannaito High blood na kami mag-asawa so my husband and son took a bath and we went home.

The staff at the reception asked?

All I knew is, we wasted our two hours waiting for nothing. I don’t know if that staff is under the Zoobic Lodge. We’re not dying to swim in that pool, it just so happened that my husband promised my son that they will swim, trust issue ito. So we convinced our son that the pool is dirty at may mga frog. We promised that we will swim in other pool na lang.

Anway, although the place was creepy for me, wala naman ko nakita o naramdaman na kakaiba. Lol The service was ok except for the pool staff. I don’t know about the room rates but I saw this in our room.

Revisited Zoobic Safari

It is very unusual to me that I will revisit one place or attraction within a year because I always wanted to visit new places and discover new things. But this year, I visited two places, twice in a year. Last February 2014, we had a family trip in Zoobic Safari and Ocean Adventure, then last month my son had field trip in Ocean Adventure and at the same time I also won Zoobic Safari Package in one contest. Sayang lang, kasi after field trip ko na nakuha prize.

Klook.com

We’re supposed to use the gift certificate last sembreak but my husband was busy as a bee and could not take a vacation leave so it was only last weekend we were able to use the voucher. We left at 5AM and made a quick stop at Petron Lakeshore for our breakfast. My husband suggested “Fiesta Keni!” (Mangan Tanan), it is an eat all you can breakfast at P149.

He always eats here if he has business trip up North. The price is worth it kung malakas kumain but for somone like me and my son, lugi. My son only ate one fried egg and rice for P75.

Tuyo, longganisa, tocino, fried egg, salted egg, rice and coffee. I only ate salted egg, longganisa and rice.
Then off we went to Zoobic Safari, I just gave my gift certificate and paid P20 per person for Environment Fee. Again, there’s no tour guide available, second time na so feeling ko wala talaga tour guide, para sa mga nagfield trip lang. Lol

We started our tour again in Bird Walk and went inside the Bird Thrill. Last February, this was closed so we were happy to experience this on our second visit. We had our first bird feeding experience in Residence Inn Zoo, pero mas maganda dito kasi standing position naman. Hehehe! P10 for the bird feeds.

Next stop is the Zoobic Cave and Forbidden Cave, we skipped the forbidden cave and went straight to Tiger Safari, crowded kasi at may kasabayan na nagfield trip.

Last time, solo namin yung jeep but last weekend we have to share it with other groups. The chicken is P200/3 so I paid P70 for my share. Since we did not avail the package, we only had tiger safari and no more lion safari.

Then we moved to Close Encounter, Savannah, Animal MuZooeum, Aeta’s Trail, Hip-Hop-Bay-a-Walk and Croco Loco. During our last visit, masipag yung staff, she was giving us information on every site, trivia about the animals and other information so I was disappointed last weekend, nag sight seeing lang kami till we reach the Croco Loco.

Hubby and son tried the crocodile feeding again for P50.

We missed the Amazing Bird Show and my son did not want to leave the place until he watch the show but he has no choice because we did not want to wait til 1:30 or 3PM.

We went to Zoobic Lodge to check if we could check in early but unfortunately 2PM pa daw. We ate lunch at Aristocrat near Harbor Point Mall, they have good service here.

Then we went back to Zoobic Safari to watch the last show which is Animal Parade at 3PM. We waited for almost an hour, we were happy because it was a different show and it was nice to meet the Zoo mascot. I did not know na may mascot pala each zoo.

Lunch at Buffalo’s Wings N Things

I mentioned in one of my posts that I received eGift Card from Munchpunch but I wasn’t able to use it because when we went to Buffalo’s Wings N Things Solenad branch, my eGC wasn’t honored.

And because of that incident, I printed the giftaway and listed all the branches where I can use the eGC, para sure. Four months had passed and finally I was able to use it, after attending the World Psoriasis Day in San Andres, Manila we went to Glorietta to eat our brunch at Buffalo’s Wings N Things.

It took us time to find the restaurant and I noticed that the restaurant is small. Solenad branch is much bigger. I ordered Garlic Parmesan + Fries P149 + 29 again since I don't like spicy food, my husband ordered Triple Mini Burgers P179 and my son ordered NY Cheese Cake Ice Cream (I forgot the price), we ordered drinks too so we can consume the P500. :)

We’re satisfied with our meal again, I shared the chicken with my son. He only likes the skin of the chicken so ending sa kin na yung wala lasa. Lol My son did not like the dessert because he saw the blueberry sauce on top of the cream. But my husband was so happy with the NY Cheese Cake Ice Cream and muntikan ko ng di matikman. Lol #masarapnamankasi Next time we visit this restaurant, I will order the ice cream again.

Living with Psoriasis: My Journey & World Psoriasis Day Experience

Living with psoriasis can be challenging, emotional, and life-changing. But it has also taught me resilience, gratitude, and the importance of raising awareness. Through my personal journey and participation in World Psoriasis Day events in the Philippines, I’ve learned that psoriasis is not contagious, and advocacy can truly make a difference.

What is Psoriasis?

Psoriasis is a chronic skin condition that causes red, scaly patches on the skin. It is not contagious and can affect anyone, regardless of family history. Some people experience mild symptoms, while others face severe flare-ups that impact daily life. Living with psoriasis often involves medical treatments, lifestyle adjustments, and emotional support.

My Early Struggles with Psoriasis

I was diagnosed with psoriasis during my fourth year of college. At first, it was mild, and I could live normally—wearing what I wanted and going about my daily life. But after giving birth to my son, the condition became severe, spreading all over my body.

Before joining any support groups, I felt alone and frustrated. I tried topical medications, phototherapy, and other treatments, but progress was slow and expensive. There were times I felt depressed, wishing I could have normal skin again.

Joining the Asian Psoriasis Club and the local PsorPhil group gave me hope. I realized I wasn’t alone—there were others who truly understood what I was going through.

Celebrating World Psoriasis Day

World Psoriasis Day, observed globally every year, is dedicated to raising awareness about psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. The event aims to educate people, improve access to treatments, and reduce discrimination against those living with the condition.

My First Fun Walk (2010)

In 2010, I joined the Fun Walk in Manila organized by PsorPhil. I wanted to show the world that psoriasis is not contagious and connect with others battling the same condition. It was my first step toward advocacy, and I left feeling empowered and supported.

Joining the Cause Again (2012)

Two years later, I joined the World Psoriasis Day Fun Walk at Maysilo Circle, Mandaluyong City. This time, my husband and son accompanied me. We participated alongside doctors, sponsors, volunteers, and other supporters, all under the global theme “Put Psoriasis on the Agenda Now.” After the walk, we enjoyed games, activities, and even won the sack race with Asian PsorClub! These events are not just fun—they help build community and amplify awareness.

World Psoriasis Day 2014

In 2014, I attended another World Psoriasis Day event at San Andres Complex. The celebration included:

Free medical consultations with dermatologists and rheumatologists
Health checks like blood pressure, sugar, cholesterol, BMI, and urinalysis
Free medications (while supplies lasted)
Fun activities, including cheering competitions, raffles, and a Zumba party

Each year, these events reinforce the importance of advocacy, support, and education for people living with psoriasis.

National Psoriasis Awareness in the Philippines

Since 2011, the Philippines has observed National Psoriasis Awareness Week from October 23–29 via Presidential Proclamation. This initiative complements World Psoriasis Day by promoting education, reducing stigma, and increasing support for individuals with psoriasis.

The International Federation of Psoriasis Associations (IFPA) also advocates worldwide for the 125 million people affected by psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. Together, these efforts give patients a voice and encourage global awareness.

Living with Psoriasis: My Message

Psoriasis is more than just a skin condition—it affects confidence, mental health, and daily life. Yet, with family support, medical care, and strong advocacy communities like Asian PsorClub and PsorPhil, living with psoriasis becomes manageable.

I hope my story inspires others to:

Seek support and join psoriasis communities
Participate in awareness events like World Psoriasis Day
Remember that psoriasis is not contagious

Through continued education and advocacy, we can build a more understanding world for people living with psoriasis.

Dinner at Tonkatsu by Terazawa

Update: No more Tonkantsu by Terazawa in Solenad 1

There are so many new restaurants that are popping everywhere and now I’ve been seeing a lot of Japanese restaurants serving tonkatsu. I’m not really into Japanese food because I don’t eat raw food but since they also serve other dishes, I have reason to try Japanese restaurants. My usual order is tonkatsu or ebi tempura.

We always visit Nuvali and I always see Tonkatsu by Terazawa, I know that it is a new restaurant in Nuvali because if I remember it right, Pig Out restaurant yung pinalitan nila.

Two weeks ago, after we visited my grandmother in Laguna, we dropped by at Nuvali to buy tiramisu then we checked the Tonkatsu restaurant. We saw the P295 + SC katsu promo but it was only 3PM, it was too early for dinner so we just went home and I promise myself that we will go back.

So after a week, we went back to Nuvali, it was Friday night so I was expecting a full packed restaurant but we were the first customer at past 6PM.

Upon seated, they gave us the menu and tea, there are only two choices for the unlimited promo so we order both, Rosu Katsu (Deep Fried Pork Loin) and Hire Katsu (Deep Fried Pork Fillet) at P295. The meal includes unlimited miso soup, rice and cabbage. My son who was not in the mood to eat so he just ordered French fries P125.

I like the interior of the restaurant, mukha siya maaliwalas. They have TV and free wifi so you won’t get bored while waiting for your order.

Rosu Katsu

Hire Katsu
The katsu is good, there is a crunch in every bite but I find it dry and thin. Maybe because this is not the premium cut of pork. It is just ok for us and we still prefer the katsu of Yabu. But if you are craving for tonkatsu and you live in Laguna, I can still suggest this restaurant.

Lunch at Tummy Tons

Since we always go out every weekend, we have no choice but to eat outside. We don’t want to splurge on food always so from time to time we eat in fastfood or affordable restaurant.

A couple of weeks ago, after my check-up, we went to Tummy Tons to eat our lunch because we don’t have food at home. My husband ate here before so he suggested this so I can try the mais con yelo na parang Razon’s din yung ice.

If you live in Binan, Laguna, you will notice this restaurant because it is along the hi-way before you reach the Carmona/Binan Exit. It took me time to browse the menu and we ended up buying set meals.

My son ordered the budget meal lumpia shanghai P65 and my husband and I ordered the P99 meal BBQ and Grilled Liempo (unlimited rice + iced tea). That’s what we thought but when we received the bill, P120 pala yung with iced tea. Waah! I should ordered the budget meal na lang because di naman ko malakas sa rice.

We also ordered saging con yelo P55 and mais con yelo P45, I agree with my husband that the shaved ice can be compared to Razon’s but I still prefer Razon’s.

Overall, we’re all satisified naman with the taste and take note, free wifi pa sila. But next time, budget meals na lang kami. Hehehe!

Zoos in the Philippines: A Family Adventure

One more day and my son will have his school break—yay! No alarm clocks for a week, more time for household chores, and a chance to catch up on backlogs. With no homework or quizzes, our only task is reviewing for Christian Living, Health, and Computer before the last day of his second periodical test.

If you’re looking for fun activities during the semestral break, visiting zoos is a fantastic option. Over the years, our family has explored several zoos across the Philippines, and I’d like to share our experiences with you.

Paradizoo 2009 – Nature and Discovery

I wasn’t feeling well on my birthday, so we had to delay the celebration. Since we only had one day to celebrate, I decided to go to Paradizoo. We paid ₱100 each for the entrance fee, and my son was still free.

Paradizoo is located in Mendez, Cavite, and at that time, we lived in Laguna, so the travel time wasn’t long. I had read many good reviews beforehand, so I expected more.

The place was just okay for me—not bad, but there were fewer activities than I anticipated. Attractions include Perpetual Park Pet Cemetery, Butterfly Garden, Mushroom Garden, Honeybee Farm, Camping Area, Picnic Area, and Infinity Pond of Positivism. According to my research, visitors can interact with animals such as camels, llamas, ostriches, miniature horses, and more.

However, when we went there, we just toured on our own—no tour guide. We did see animals freely roaming, like piglets and ducks.

We also explored the flower and vegetable gardens, though it didn’t seem to be harvest time yet. Nature and animal lovers would enjoy this place. This visit happened in 2009, so I’m not sure how much it has improved since then. The entrance fee is reasonable if you want to see farm animals. Don’t forget to bring water, a hat, or an umbrella.

Manila Zoo 2010 – Nostalgic Beginnings

I hadn’t been to Manila Zoo in over two decades. Originally, I planned to visit Divisoria, but Tutuban Mall was closed for Good Friday, so we ended up at Manila Zoo instead.

Honestly, I was a little disappointed. The zoo felt outdated, and I didn’t notice significant improvements since my last visit. It was still enjoyable for my son, who loved seeing the animals up close, but it’s a zoo that could use modernization to match other zoos around the country.

Avilon Zoo 2010

After visiting Science Centrum, the next stop of the Field Trip was Avilon Zoo in Rizal, the largest zoo in the Philippines. The place is really far—it took us more than 2 hours to get there from Marikina. The road was long, bumpy, and winding.

Visitors can interact with animals, feed them, and even take photos for a minimal fee.

It’s better to bring your own food since there are no nearby restaurants, except for the one inside the zoo. The place is huge, so don’t forget a cap or umbrella, water to stay hydrated, and extra clothes. It took us more than 2 hours just to tour the entire zoo.

Ark Avilon Zoo + Fun Ranch 2011

For my son’s birthday, I researched places where we could celebrate. His birthday falls on a weekday, so we only had one day to celebrate. If you’ve been reading my blog for some time, you know we’re not into big parties; a simple celebration is enough.

I narrowed my list down to three choices: Enchanted Kingdom, Ocean Adventure + Zoobic Safari, or Island Cove Resort, but none of these worked out because the weather was unpredictable. I woke up early to check the weather updates. There was no storm signal, but there would be ITCZ. So we went to Ark Avilon Zoo—the only interactive indoor zoo in the country, perfect for rain or shine.

Ark Avilon Zoo is the sister zoo of the country’s largest wildlife park, Avilon Zoo. Ark Avilon Zoo is small compared to Avilon Zoo. It took us almost two hours to reach it, but less than an hour to tour. Fortunately, the place was not crowded—no field trips or birthday parties. The downside was that we couldn’t meet some animal residents like Brutus (miniature horse), Golem (donkey), and Selina (albino python). It’s better to call the zoo to ask which animals are available for interaction. Jenny (orangutan), Puti (eagle), and Narda (cockatoo) were present. Picture taking is free, unlike in Avilon Zoo.

There are feeding stations where you can feed some animals, but you must buy the food. Prices were a bit high due to typhoons, but my son enjoyed feeding the rabbits and sheep, so it was worth it.

There’s also a mini playground and art corner on the second floor, plus a free foot spa (bring alcohol and towels to clean your feet).

Zoo Schedule:
Weekdays: 9:00 am to 6:00 pm
Weekends & Holidays: 10:00 am to 7:30 pm

After visiting the zoo, you can explore Fun Ranch. There is no entrance fee, but rides cost ₱50 per ride or ₱295 for unlimited rides. God is so good for giving us good weather—it didn’t rain during our visit.

Update: As of June 4, 2020, Fun Ranch decided not to reopen after shutting its branches due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Branches in Ortigas, Alabang, and Pampanga confirmed permanent closure.

Baluarte 2012

Baluarte is the only zoo in the Philippines with no entrance fee (as far as I know). It’s not just a zoo but a wildlife sanctuary where visitors can interact with animals. It is open every day from 7 AM to 6 PM.

At the entrance, you’ll see a small horse-drawn carriage called a “tiburin.” The rides are free, but tipping is expected. My husband asked if the ride was free, and the driver whispered, “Tip lang po.”

You can also take photos with their tiger for ₱50 per picture or ₱20 if you use your own camera. We stayed less than two hours before heading to Calle Crisologo.

Residence Inn Zoo 2013

Though we often visit Tagaytay, we had never been to Residence Inn Zoo (now Zoori) until last semestral break. I checked rates online and was shocked that I only paid ₱199 per person—online tickets were ₱250.

The weather rained as we entered, but it didn’t stop us from enjoying the zoo. I bought animal chow for ₱20. We visited the Serpentarium (scary—snakes peek out!) and watched the Petz Action show. My son enjoyed feeding birds for ₱10.

The zoo is not very large; you can enjoy it in about two hours, including the animal show. There’s also a souvenir shop and food area.

Zoobic Safari 2014 – A Wild Day in Subic

I wasn’t interested in zoos when I was single, but having a son changed that. Kids enjoy seeing and interacting with animals.

We finally visited Zoobic Safari as part of a family outing with an itinerary including Camayan Beach Resort and Ocean Adventure. We left home around 4 AM to reach the zoo by 8 AM.

We availed the White Safari Package: ₱645 (4 ft and above), ₱545 (below 4 ft), free for 3 ft and below.

Inclusions:
11 attractions (Zoobic Park, Rodent World, Serpentarium, Zoobic Cave, Tiger Safari Ride, Close Encounter, Savannah, Animal MuZooeum, Aetas’ Trail, Hip-Hop-Bay-a-Wak, Croco Loco)
White Jeep and Tram
Cold Towel
White Lion Safari Ride
Zoo Guide

Unfortunately, there was no tour guide, so we explored on our own. Zoobic Safari is the first and only tiger safari in the Philippines, covering 25 hectares.

We toured Bird Walk, Zoobic Park, Rodent World, Serpentarium, and goat milk feeding (₱30 per bottle). We also rode the tram to the Forbidden and Zoobic Cave, Tiger Safari Ride, White Lion Safari Ride, and more. Crocodile feeding costs ₱50.

Visiting zoos has become one of my favorite family activities. My son loves animals, and it’s amazing to see his excitement while interacting with them. Each zoo offers a unique experience—some better for short visits, others for full-day adventures.

Whether feeding rabbits at Ark Avilon, exploring Avilon Zoo’s vast grounds, enjoying Zoori’s bird feeding, or riding the tram at Zoobic Safari, there’s always something new and memorable to discover. I hope this guide helps you plan your next family outing to a zoo in the Philippines!

Grilled Cheese Sandwich

I was clearing my photo albums in my phone when I saw this grilled cheese sandwich. I can’t believe that I haven’t posted it yet in my blog because I always cook this at home. It is so easy to make and you can eat it on breakfast or snacks.

You only need butter, mozzarella cheese, slices of bread.

1. Heat the grilling pan or any flat pan.
2. You can put butter directly on the pan or spread it on your bread.
3. I put cheese on one slice of the bread and cover it with another bread.
4. Grill both sides until lightly brown and cheese melts.
5. Slice diagonally and serve.

If I’m lazy, I put the sandwich in the oven toaster. Hehehe! My husband puts cracked pepper on his cheese sandwich.
