18th Birthday Craft Projects: Handmade Cards, Shirts & Cake Toppers for My Son

Turning 18 is such a special milestone, and I wanted to make my son’s birthday a little more personal with a few handmade projects.

I ended up making several birthday crafts for him: from a mini laptop card and a funny shirt to a timeless handmade card and three different cake toppers!

Some were planned, some were made as backup plans, and a few were simply too much fun to make only once. Here’s a look at all the projects I created for his 18th birthday.

Mini Laptop Card - Chapter Eighteen

My son’s birthday wish was a new laptop specifically, a gaming laptop. For the past few weeks, we searched online and made inquiries. My husband even visited a few stores looking for the laptop he wanted, but unfortunately, we just couldn’t find one in stock.

So I started thinking, What if we don’t find one in time?

That’s when I decided to make a mini laptop card that I could give him on his birthday, just in case we couldn’t get the real thing.

I found the project on Cricut Design Space, tweaked the design, and made my own version.

But here’s the fun part… On his birthday, we visited a different mall and decided to check if they happened to have the laptop he wanted.

And surprisingly… they did! So yes, he got his mini laptop card and his real laptop!

Talk about a backup plan turning into an extra-special birthday surprise. From a handmade mini laptop to the real thing, it couldn’t have worked out better!

“OMG! I’m an Adult Now” Shirt

Of course, turning 18 needed a shirt to celebrate the occasion!

I found this funny design on Cricut Design Space and couldn’t resist making it for him. I simply cut the SVG using iron-on vinyl and pressed it onto the shirt.

The design perfectly captures that funny feeling of turning 18: Wait… I’m an adult now?! And the face says it all!

It’s a simple project, but definitely one of my favorite little birthday crafts.

Timeless Classic Card

For his milestone birthday, I also wanted to make a card that felt a little more sophisticated.

I made this Timeless Classic Card using a design by Dreaming Tree. With its vintage gentleman wearing a suit and fedora, dramatic cityscape, and glowing moon, the layered card has such a sophisticated and timeless feel.

It seemed like the perfect card to celebrate 18 years and the start of a brand-new chapter in his life.

“May you always walk with confidence, dream without limits, and carry yourself with grace. The years may pass, but the memories you create and the person you become will always be timeless.”

18 Officially an Adult Card

Masculine cards are always a little challenging to make, but I had so much fun turning this one into something special for my son’s 18th birthday!

I spotted this Father’s Day Gift Box project in Cricut Design Space and immediately thought, Why not turn it into a birthday card?

So that’s exactly what I did! I tweaked the original design, transformed the gift box into a card, and added the front sentiment “18 & Officially an Adult!” to make it perfect for the occasion.

With its classic suit and bow design, I think it turned out to be a pretty dapper card for a young man stepping into adulthood.

I love finding ways to take a design that was created for one occasion and give it a completely different purpose. It makes crafting even more fun, and this one worked perfectly for his milestone birthday!

“18 Officially an Adult” Cake Topper

Of course, no birthday celebration is complete without a cake topper!

For this one, I created an “18 Officially an Adult” cake topper. I really loved how the silver shimmer vinyl looked when I first made it.

Unfortunately, after a few days, I noticed that the vinyl was no longer sticking properly. Maybe the vinyl was already old, or perhaps it just wasn’t cooperating with me!

Instead of remaking the entire topper, I decided to replace just the first layer with glitter cardstock.

I still love the look of the silver shimmer, but I was actually pretty happy with how the glitter cardstock turned out too!

Sometimes crafting means improvising when things don’t go quite as planned, and I’m glad I did.

“Happy 18th Birthday!” Cake Topper

I also made this sweet Happy 18th Birthday cake topper featuring a cupcake and candle. I recreated the project from Cricut Design Space and had so much fun putting it together.

It’s a simple design, but the little cupcake and candle details make it such a cute addition to a birthday cake.

Eighteen Cake Topper

And then there was this one! I only needed one cake topper, but somehow I ended up making three.

Since we only had one cake, I used the toppers one at a time and took a photo of each one.

This one is a simple “Eighteen” cake topper, perfect for celebrating such a big milestone.

Sometimes when you enjoy making things, one project just isn’t enough!

Handmade with Love for an 18th Birthday

An 18th birthday only comes around once, and these handmade projects made the celebration feel even more personal and memorable.

Most of all, I loved being able to make these little things for my son with my own hands.

Happy 18th birthday, my son! Welcome to adulthood. May this new chapter be filled with adventures, dreams, and wonderful memories.

A Little Paper Craft Catch-Up: Gift Cards, Invitations & More

Yesterday, we had no internet connection, so I took the opportunity to do something I had been putting off: declutter my digital files.

As I went through folders and photos, I came across several paper craft projects that I had made but never shared here. Looking through them brought back so many memories, and I thought it was finally time to give these projects their moment.

From practical gift card holders to a sweet baby shower invitation and a sentimental mini album, each project has its own little story. So, here are a few paper crafts I’ve been meaning to share.

New Home Gift Card Holder

This housewarming gift card holder was my final Summer–Fall Design Team project as a guest designer for Printable Cuttable Creatables.

The design is a ready-to-cut New Home Gift Card Holder SVG File, which I cut using my Cricut Maker 3. To add a little extra sparkle, I added Sizzix Pearlescent Medium for a soft, subtle shimmer.

I love how a gift card can feel so much more personal when it comes with a handmade holder. This housewarming gift card holder adds a thoughtful touch to a practical gift; simple, heartfelt, and made with love.

Floral Gift Card

This simple yet elegant 3×3 gift card features delicate floral details created with the Spellbinders Four Petal Floral Embossing Folder.

I brushed Sizzix Pearlescent Medium over the raised blooms to bring out a beautiful, subtle shimmer, then layered the embossed piece over gold foil cardstock. I love how the soft, neutral colors work with the touch of gold.

Baby Shower Invitation

This sweet baby shower invitation was my entry for Bee Happy Craft Weeklies.

I created the invitation using my Cricut machine along with blue and pink cardstock. The adorable stork design gives it that classic “special delivery” feel and makes the invitation extra special. The Baby Shower Invitation design is from Dreaming Tree.

Grandma’s Garden Mini Album

This project may look like a simple mason jar filled with flowers, but behind every cut and every page is something much more meaningful: a gift for my Mom for Grandparents’ Day.

I created this mini album to fill each page with a photo of one of her six grandchildren. Each page will hold a little piece of the faces she loves, the memories she helps create, and the beautiful blessing of being a grandmother.

I hope that whenever she flips through these pages, she’ll see more than just photographs. I hope she sees the love, laughter, and precious memories shared by her family.

Because grandmas deserve to be reminded just how loved and cherished they are. Handmade with love, one page and one memory at a time. The SVG file is from 12x12 Cardstock.

A Little Crafting Catch-Up

It’s funny how rediscovering old photos can bring back the feelings and memories behind a project. Some of these crafts were made for design challenges, some for special occasions, and one was made especially for someone I love.

They may have been sitting quietly in a folder on my computer, but each project still tells a little story.

And sometimes, all it takes is a day without internet to remind me to slow down, look back, and finally share the things I’ve created along the way.

Birthday Craft Projects: Handmade Cards & a DIY Cake Topper

I’m sharing a few birthday craft projects I made last month, including handmade birthday cards and a fun DIY cake topper. I had so much fun experimenting with different inks, stencils, pastes, and other crafting supplies to create these birthday projects!

Bee Birthday Card

This Happy Bee Day card was such a fun project to create! I used bee stamps, stencils, and cutting dies, then colored the images with Ohuhu Markers.

For the honeycomb background, I blended Brilliance Archival Ink through a stencil to create a fun, layered design. I also added a second background using Lindy’s Gang Magical Summer Break, which added a beautiful touch of shimmer.

This was my first time using both the Lindy’s Gang Magical Summer Break set and the Brilliance Archival Ink Pad, so I really enjoyed experimenting with them. I’m so happy with how these products came together to bring this cheerful bee-themed birthday card to life!

Birthday Cake Card

I had so much fun creating this sweet birthday cake card! SVG file is from Bearly Art.

For the cake icing, I used Aleene’s True Snow combined with Lunar Paste to create a fun, dimensional texture that almost looks good enough to eat!

I paired the cake with a shimmery embossed background made using Lindy’s Gang Magical Powder. The combination of texture and sparkle added a festive touch to the design.

Simple Birthday Card

For this card, I kept things simple with a Distress Oxide background and stamps featuring cute animal designs.

Sometimes a simple design is all you need, and I really enjoyed coloring the stamped images and seeing the card come together.

Happy Birthday Cake Topper

To finish off my birthday projects, I made my own Happy Birthday cake topper using an SVG file from Craft with Sarah.

It was a fun and easy project, and I love how a handmade cake topper can add a personal touch to a birthday celebration!

Final Thoughts

I really enjoyed making these birthday projects and experimenting with different crafting products and techniques. Each project gave me the opportunity to try something different, and I’m looking forward to using these techniques and supplies again in future projects!

Graduation Craft Ideas: Tote Bags, Cards & Cake Toppers

I’m excited to share the graduation-themed paper craft projects I’ve been creating over the past few months. From tote bags and cake toppers to handmade cards, these projects were such a fun way to celebrate graduation season while experimenting with different crafting techniques and materials.

Watch Me Bloom Mini Tote Bag

Last year, I had the opportunity to be part of the Printable Cuttable Creatables Design Team, and this month I returned as a guest designer for their graduation-themed challenge. For my project, I created this adorable “Watch Me Bloom” Mini Tote Bag.

This was a simple yet enjoyable project made using the Cricut Design Space with my Cricut Maker 3 and Cricut EasyPress 3. I used iron-on vinyl along with Ohuhu fabric markers to add extra details to the tote bag. It was actually my first time trying fabric markers, and I really enjoyed the creative process.

The design I used was the “Watch Me Bloom” SVG file from Printable Cuttable Creatables.

Graduation Cake Toppers

I also made two graduation cake toppers for this season. The first was a printable cake topper, while the second featured a layered paper-craft design for added dimension and texture.

Both topper designs were created using SVG files from Cricut Design Space. I love how versatile these designs are for customizing graduation party decorations.

Congratulations Cards

One of my favorite parts of this crafting series was making handmade congratulations cards. In total, I created five different cards, each with its own unique style.

The first card featured a layered balloon design paired with a “Congrats” phrase. The second card was a draw-and-color project, while the remaining three were cutaway cards. For these cards, I used the Cricut machine to draw, cut, and color the designs, which made the process both fun and efficient.

All SVG files used for these cards were also from Cricut Design Space.

Owl Graduation Card

The final project I created was an Owl Graduation Card. The original SVG design was actually intended for a writing pad project, but I decided to repurpose the owl element into a graduation-themed card instead.

The SVG file for this project came from Dreaming Tree, and I really love how cute and creative the finished card turned out.

Final Thoughts

These graduation crafts were such a fun collection of projects to work on. I enjoyed experimenting with different techniques like layered paper crafting, draw-and-cut designs, and fabric markers. Graduation season is always a wonderful time to create personalized handmade gifts and decorations, and I’m happy to have added these projects to my crafting journey.
