Asian Hospital E.R. Experience

Last week, when my son was not feeling well, we immediately brought him to Asian Hospital without eating our dinner. We stayed there for more than two hours waiting for his stool sample, but we did not get any, so finally they decided to give us a stool collector just in case my son poop, we can go to the nearest hospital to have it checked.
I am used to their E.R. facilities and services, but this is my first time seeing their room for infants and children. The room has a television to entertain the patient.

If I did not panic, my damage would be P500 for a pediatric check-up and not P1500+ for an E.R. check-up.

Day Trip in Liliw Laguna

After visiting our grandmother in Victoria, Laguna, we decided to go to Liliw, Laguna. It’s been two years since the last time I went to Liliw. On our way to Liliw, we passed by this house and post. I am not sure who owns this house.

“Sa pook na ito ng Maimpis binaril ng mga kawal ng Pamahalaang Kastila si Emilio Jacinto noong Pebrero 1898 kaugnay ng Himagsikan ng Pilipinas noong 1896-1898”

This is the famous red church in Liliw, founded in 1605, the St. John the Baptist Parish. The church is big and beautiful and you can see that they really preserved and maintained their church. There is a museum inside the church but unfortunately it was closed that time.

There is St. Bonaventure Candle Corner, P5 per candle. There are different candles that you can choose from and each candle has its own symbol.

Of course our trip will not be complete if we will not visit the “tsinelas stores”. It is walking distance from the church so you will not miss it. There are several stores that you can visit and you can buy slippers, sandals, shoes, hats, bags and others. You can still haggle for the price but some stores like Badong who does not give discount. Below are the things that I have bought from my trip.

Do not forget to visit the famous pizza and pasta restaurant “Arabela”, walking distance also from the “footwear store”.

On April 26-May 1, 2011, they will celebrate Liliw Gat Tayaw Tsinelas Festival.

Beauty, Money, and Wellness: A Summer Retreat to Remember at Morong Star Beach Resort

Last April 2011, I had the wonderful opportunity to join the BMW (Beauty, Money, and Wellness) project organized by PsorPhil—a special initiative designed to help psoriasis patients regain their sense of wholeness, confidence, and well-being. Through workshops and lectures focused on beauty, financial literacy, and wellness management, the event aimed to empower participants to live more self-sufficient and fulfilling lives.

The BMW Experience

It was my first time joining BMW, and the event took place at the beautiful Morong Star Beach Resort and Hotel in Morong, Bataan. The whole-day activity was filled with engaging talks, hands-on demos, and relaxing moments by the beach. Participants came from different PsorClubs across the Philippines, including RITM, AHMC, JRRMMC, SLMC, EAMC, SCF, OM, MMC, UERMMC, PGH, USTH, and even PsorPhil members from Facebook.

A Whole Day of Learning, Healing, and Connection

The BMW project focuses on three important things — beauty, money, and wellness — all equally important in helping psoriasis patients regain their confidence and sense of self-worth.

The schedule was packed, but it never felt overwhelming because every activity was done with so much warmth and energy.

Beauty Talk – by Marj Platilla and Dra. Maf
Money Talk – by Edwin De Guzman
Motivational Talk – by John Brian Diamante
Salad Making Demo – by Chef Arjun Binalla
Livelihood Trainings and Demos – included soap making, jewelry making, and a loading business workshop
Meditation Session – led by Kathy Tan

The event also featured raffles, freebies, and lots of laughter. I didn’t win the raffle draw, but the experience itself was more than enough reward. The best part? The registration fee was only ₱325, made possible through the generosity of sponsors, moderators, and PsorPhil officers.

How to Budget Your Money

Budgeting isn’t easy — it’s a skill every mom (and really, every adult!) should learn so we don’t end up living paycheck to paycheck. During the BMW seminar, Edwin De Guzman shared practical and insightful tips on how to manage our finances better. His talk was simple, realistic, and very doable. Here are some of his best pieces of advice:

1. Get the whole picture.
Know exactly where your money goes. Awareness is the first step to taking control of your finances.

2. Record everything.
Write down all your expenses — unexpected, annual, monthly, weekly, and even discretionary.

Unexpected expenses: home repairs, maintenance, and medical bills
Annual or quarterly expenses: homeowners’ dues, license renewals, insurance, and property tax
Monthly expenses: bank loans, credit card payments, rent, utilities, internet, and cable
Weekly expenses: groceries, personal care, child support, and transportation
Discretionary expenses: books, entertainment, dining out, vacations, travel, and membership fees

3. Compute your total monthly expenses.
Compare it with your income to see where you stand financially.

4. If your expenses are higher than your income, make adjustments.
Identify which areas you can cut back on or simplify.

5. Review your budget worksheet regularly.
Check for any errors or overlooked items, make corrections, and re-total.

6. If expenses still exceed income, create new sources of income.
As Edwin reminded us, “Do not wait for opportunities — create opportunities.”

7. Always keep savings for a rainy day.
The ideal amount is equivalent to six months of your net income.

8. Tithe or give back.
Set aside at least 10% of your income to give back to God or support causes that matter to you.

This part of the seminar was one of my favorites because it made me realize that money management isn’t about restriction — it’s about freedom. When you know where your money goes, you feel more confident and secure.

A Quick Look at Morong Star Beach Resort and Hotel

Since it was my first time visiting Morong Star Beach Resort, I was pleasantly surprised at how big and lively the place was. It’s the kind of spot that’s perfect for retreats, company outings, and family getaways.

The resort has both a beach and a swimming pool, plus tons of activities like a zip line, adventure park, fun carts, and even a live band at night. Sports lovers can enjoy basketball, volleyball, billiards, darts, chess, and table tennis. There’s always something to do, whether you’re in the mood to relax or play.

The food and drinks were okay, not exactly gourmet but satisfying enough after a full day of activities. The rooms were spacious, though the air-conditioning struggled to cool the entire space, especially in the heat of summer. Still, for its affordable rates, it’s a great option for those living nearby.

If you’re from Bataan, this resort is a good choice for a quick beach escape. But since I’m from the South, I might pick somewhere closer next time, like Laiya, Batangas.

Overall, my BMW Summer Retreat experience was something I’ll always treasure. It wasn’t just about beauty or money or wellness — it was about reconnecting with myself and realizing that healing goes beyond the skin.

I met amazing people, learned new things, and went home feeling refreshed and inspired. Sometimes, all we need is a change of scenery, a few good talks, and the reminder that we are not alone in this journey.

Tuna Steak

Honestly, this is my first time to cook tuna, not canned tuna. I asked my hubby what am I going to do with it and he said just grill it. But instead of just grilling it, I ended up making tuna steak.

1. Marinate the tuna in soy sauce, pepper and calamansi juice for less than 30 minutes.
2. Pan-grill the marinated tuna.
3. Saute the onion and put the marinated sauce.
4. Put the sauce on top of the grilled tuna.

It turned out well and my hubby enjoyed the tuna steak.

Lunch at Viewsite Restaurant

There are so many restaurants in Tagaytay that you can try, ranging from cheap to expensive ones. We usually eat at Leslie’s because of their Bulalo, but this time we want to try something new. We usually passed by the Viewsite restaurant if we were going to Calerueg, but we never tried it, so we decided to visit the place and try their food.

What’s nice about this restaurant is the scenery; you can see the Taal Volcano while eating your meal.

The service crew is very friendly and accommodating. When I ordered Bulalo soup for P80, the lady told me that she would give me free soup, so I didn't need to order Bulalo soup. The food servings are good for 2 to 3 people. The price is very affordable and it ranges from P170-450 per viand.

We ordered Sizzling pusit and inihaw na liempo. My hubby loves their pusit, but I enjoy my inihaw na liempo. No need for soy sauce because their liempo is flavorful.

Birthday at King One Rotary Hotpot

I always want to try shabu-shabu, but Healthy Shabu-Shabu is so expensive, good thing that there is King One Rotary Hotpot. It offers eat-all-you-can meals and bottomless drinks for lunch and dinner. It was my first time so I was really clueless but the staff was kind enough to help and assist.

Read: Four Seasons Buffet and Hotpot

He will ask you what soup you want to put in the pot, you can choose two soups from the following choices; Korean kimchi soup, Hongkong curry soup, Plain soup, Spicy Szechuan Soup, Century egg wansoy soup and Satay soup. We choose Plain soup and Satay soup.

Then he gave us a checklist of the ingredients that we want to eat, all we need to do is to tick the box of the ingredients that we want and he will serve it. We were also given free short order dishes.

It is best if you sit beside the conveyor belt so it will be easy for you to get what you want or ask the staff to prepare what you want. P499 for eat-all-you-can is really worth it because you can eat almost everything that you want, there are seafood, meats, vegetables, dimsum, dumplings, mozzarella balls, noodles and many more. There is no doubt that there are so many people who visit this place, you can see different races here, there are Chinese, Korean and of course Filipinos.

Lunch at Amici

One of my comfort food is pizza so if there is a restaurant who serves pizza I always want to try it. Amici is not a new restaurant but it took me so many years before I finally taste their pizza because they have limited branches. Aside from pizza, they also serve pasta, salad, gelato, and other meals. It is a self-service restaurant so you have to go to the cashier to take and pay for your order. You will receive a number and wait for your food to be served on your table.

Read: Lunch at Amici Alabang

We ordered Tutta Carne Pizza, Carbonara and Pollo Arrostito. We are all satisfied with the taste of the food. We even love it compared to Italliani’s food. The price is very reasonable and the serving is good for 2 – 3 people. We did not miss their gelato and my son loves it.

Dinner at Bag of Beans

Hubby was on leave and I was craving for food so we decided to go to Tagaytay. I always read good reviews about Bag of Beans so I decided to try this. I thought it is just a small place; I was so surprised that the place is huge; you can choose indoor or outdoor tables.

There were so many people at that time so it was really hard to find a table and most of the good spots were taken. The place is really relaxing and I guess a nice place if you want to unwind, read a good book or just sip a cup of coffee.

It is not just a café but a restaurant also because they serve other meals aside from bread and coffee. We ordered Roast Beef and Pork BBQ Slice, I was so disappointed with the taste because it tastes like beef nilaga. My hubby is making fun of me because we already ate beef nilaga at home during our lunch. Pork BBQ slice is just ok, so we’re not really happy with our order.

We bought raisins bread. I do not like raisins but I love their raisins bread. Next time I visit this place, I would try their bread and coffee but will not order roast beef again.

World Psoriasis Day 2010

It has been 9 years since I had psoriasis, sad to say that there is still no cure for this skin disease but it is not contagious. It is really a struggle for me to accept that I have this because there is no one in the family who has psoriasis so I still have no clue where did I inherit this.
Two years ago when I started to feel depressed because it is all over my body, I really feel so sad because I am doing everything just to prevent the flare-up, I tried all the topical medications and even phototherapy but there is no improvement. Having psoriasis is not easy because the medicines and treatments are not cheap.
But I still thank God for giving me the strength to go on and making me realize that I am not alone. It is true that I am not alone, for the past few years, I thought that I am the only one who have this in the Philippines, and thank God that I was able to join Asian Psoriasis Club, where I met other people who have psoriasis. It gives me relief that there is someone who can really understand my situation.
So when I heard that there is Fun walk on October 20, 2010, I did not think twice because I really want to be part of this and show the world that Psoriasis is not contagious.

Lunch at Mano’s Greek Taverna 2010

Tagaytay is one of our favorite places if we have nothing to do at home. It is a best place for us to eat and relax. We usually passed by Mano’s Greek Taverna restaurant but we never tried it because the place is not really inviting. The place is just a plain blue and white building, even their table cloth is white and blue. It is no longer surprising because the owner of the restaurant is a Greek and the color of Greece flag is blue and white.

I heard and read a lot of good reviews about this restaurant so since we are on a food trip mode, we decided to try Manos Greek Taverna. The place is not an air conditioned room so expect that there are flies buzzing around.
We ordered Moussaka and Grilled Porkchop, I do not like the taste of the lamb so I chose porkchop. I don’t eat eggplant but when you taste their Moussaka, you can’t tell that there is an eggplant so I enjoyed it. I also love their porkchop, price is very reasonable because of the big serving. They do not accept credit card.

Avilon Zoo

After Science Centrum, we went to Avilon Zoo in Rizal. It is the largest zoo in the Philippines. The place is really far, it took us more than 2 hours to get there from Marikina. It was really a long, bumpy and winding road travel.

Visitors can interact with animals or feed them and even take some pictures for a minimal fee.

It is better if you bring your own baon because there is no other nearby restaurant except for the restaurant inside the Zoo. The place is really big; don’t forget to bring cap or umbrella, water to keep you hydrated and extra clothes. It took us more than 2 hours just to tour the place.

City of Springs 2010

It’s my hubby’s birthday and the weather is not fine but there is no reason not to celebrate. We are supposed to go to Tagaytay but unfortunately, we were not able to get any room for that day so the second choice is Los BaÅ„os resort. Good thing that I was able to find the Splash Mountain flyer, we used to go to this place for day tour swimming since they have several pools both for kids and adults but this time we plan for an overnight trip.

We immediately called them but unfortunately, there is no more room available, they refer us to the City of Springs Hotel. We avail the De Luxe Room with Jacuzzi, the price is reasonable enough because you have your own mini pool or Jacuzzi inside your room.

You can bring your own food if you want though they have their own restaurant, of course, the price is quite pricey.

Divine Mercy Hills El Salvador

Our flight is still 3PM so we still have time to roam around Cagayan De Oro or nearby places but zipline and water rafting are not included in my itinerary because of my two-year-old son.

After visiting this church we decided to go to Divine Mercy Hills El Salvador or Divine Mercy Shrine El Salvador in El Salvador, Misamis Oriental.

The best way to go there is to hire a cab, the asking price is P750 and we haggle for P700. I was surprised to see that there were so many people who visited the place. There is nothing really special about the place aside from the big statue of Jesus, 15.24 meters. If you are a Catholic and religious type, you will appreciate the place.

We only stayed for 30 minutes and we went back to the hotel.

Day Trip at Kabayan Beach Resort

It was already the first week of May, and of course, we did not want to end our summer without swimming. This time we're heading to Batangas at Kabayan Beach Resort. I have read so many good reviews about this resort, so we chose this one. Just follow their direction and you will not get lost.

Kabayan Beach Resort, formerly known as Laplaya Beach Resort, started operating in 1996, so it is already an old resort. This resort is one of the affordable resorts in Batangas; you can have a day trip or an overnight stay. They have different types of rooms that can accommodate couples, families, and even team building.

Activities that you can do:

1. Kayak
2. Beach volleyball
3. Billiards
4. Speed Boat
5. Banana Boat
6. Flying Fish
7. Bandwagon
8. Playground

The good thing about this resort is that you can bring your own food, which we did to save money. But if you don’t want to bring food, don’t worry, because you can eat at the Kabayan Fastfood or the El Kapitan Bar. Corkage fee applies to all beverages, wines, and liquor.

It was no longer surprising if there were so many people at the resort because it was summer time, but because we were early, we were able to get a cottage at the beachfront. Since there were so many people at the shore, we rented a boat for P1500 for the snorkeling experience, it is just one hour of snorkeling, so I find it so expensive, but we have no choice since it is peak season.

The place is nice, just do not expect too much. The price is already affordable at P100 per person and P50 for children. My son, who was 19 months old, was not exempt from the entrance fee. They have a swimming pool, but you need to pay a fee. They also offer Day Trip packages, so just visit their website for more options. They have a chapel, multi-purpose hall, souvenir shop, and convenience store.

Check here the other resorts that we have tried in Batangas

Nuvali

After Caleruega, we went straight to Nuvali to eat our lunch. I was so happy because there is Contis in Nuvali, and I no longer need to go to Serendra to eat my favorite lengua estofado and mango bravo.

We ate first before trying the different activities in Nuvali, which is not a good idea because we waited till 1PM so we could buy feed for the fish and a ticket for the water taxi.

After our visit, I know that this won’t be our last time.
