Pasalubong from Vigan Ilocos Sur

A trip to a UNESCO World Heritage City is not complete without bringing home pasalubong or souvenirs—whether for your family or friends.

Vigan, Ilocos Sur, is not only known for its Spanish colonial architecture but also for its local delicacies, handicrafts, and other unique finds. Some of the most iconic pasalubong items include Vigan Longganisa, Bagnet, Sukang Iloko, Royal Bibingka, Chichacorn, and Vigan Empanada.

When it comes to handicrafts, Vigan is famous for its Burnay Jars, Abel Iloko, and wood crafts

You can buy food items and local snacks at the Vigan Public Market. For pottery and burnay jars, visit the Pagburnayan Jar Shops. Hidden Garden offers local delicacies, natural products, and pasalubong packages. The most famous place is Calle Crisologo, where several souvenir shops sell almost everything, making it a one-stop shop for souvenirs.

During our trip, we were able to visit Pagburnayan Jar Shops, Hidden Garden, and of course, Calle Crisologo.

Hidden Garden

My mom bought food items from Hidden Garden, but I only bought a plant. I'm not a plantita, but I was sold when the staff told me that this plant is good for indoors because it helps purify the air and is low maintenance—watering it just twice a month. I'm happy to say that we now have many of these plants at home, and my husband is the one taking care of them. Hehehe!

I was also tempted to buy a clay cooking set. When I was young, it was my dream to have one. I wanted to heal my inner child, but I knew it would probably just gather dust at home.

Irma’s Longganisa and Bagnet

We bought longganisa and bagnet at Irma’s Longganisa and Bagnet, while my husband bought bagnet and sukang Iloko at Calle Crisologo for his officemates.

Calle Crisologo

We visited different shops, but most of the pasalubong we bought came from Tongson’s Royal Bibingka store because they accept credit cards. We didn’t want to withdraw cash anymore.

It was our first time trying the famous Tongson Royal Bibingka. We just reheated it using an oven toaster. Sayang, I only bought 8 pieces—next time, I’ll get the larger size!

Food Trip at Hotel Luna

Since we had been to Vigan before, I already knew that food wouldn’t be a problem, as there are numerous restaurants and fast food joints in the area. And because of that, I did not research the “Must Try Restaurants in Vigan”.

Thirteen years ago, we dined at Cafe Uno for lunch and Irene’s Vigan Empanada for merienda. But last month, we only ate at Hotel Luna. We didn’t plan about it but since satisfied na kami sa food sa Hotel Luna, ayaw na namin lumabas pa, sa hotel na lang kami kumain.

Hotel Luna features three restaurants, including Azotea, Comedor, and Chula Saloon Bar. We visited Chula Saloon Bar and Comedor. I did not know about the Azotea, hindi tuloy namin napuntahan. Ito pala yung may magandang view.

Anyway, we ate dinner, lunch, and merienda at Chula Saloon Bar, and for buffet breakfast, we ate at Comedor.

Chula Saloon Bar

For lunch and dinner, we tried these dishes. Luna Bagnet PHP600, Luna House Salad PHP250, Sinigang na Hipon, Pork Belly Adobo, Rice, Burnt Dulce De Leche Cheesecake PHP250, and Halo-Halo PHP250. The meals are good for sharing.

Merienda Buffet

After our DIY Vigan Tour, we had late lunch at Chula Saloon Bar and sa sobrang late ng kain namin, naabutan na namin yung pagprepare ng afternoon feast. If we knew na meron Merienda Buffet, sana naghintay na lang kami ng konti kasi mas mura. Para lang kami bumili ng isang dessert. Hehehe!

Merienda Buffet is an afternoon feast of Filipino Treats for PHP299. It is from 2PM to 5PM. We checked the buffet spread and promised na babalik kami. We decided na magmerienda buffet na lang kami kaysa magdinner.

Actually, hindi pa talaga kami natutunawan, but we went back around 4PM. We only saw one occupied table, so fortunately, wala pa halos bawas yung food, and we were able to enjoy our meal. There are pansit bihon, carbonara, goto, Vigan Miki, pastries, okoy, and kakanin.

Breakfast Buffet

Our room includes a complimentary breakfast buffet, and for two days, they have the same menu for the main dishes. So we had fried rice, longganisa, daing na bangus, corned beef, tocino, and tapa. They also have bread, soup, salad, eggs, and others, so it was a satisfying breakfast.

We liked the food and service at Hotel Luna, so kaya siguro hindi na kami nagtry pa sa iba. In addition, hindi rin siya crowded.

Lunch Buffet at Cucina by Marco Polo Ortigas Hotel

A week ago, my mom suggested a buffet restaurant for her despedida, but when I saw the rates, I suggested na baka pwede mag hotel na lang kami. I knew that some credit cards are offering 40 - 50% off for lunch or dinner hotel buffet. So we inquired about the rates first to double check kung mura ba.

Cucina by Marco Polo Hotel Buffet Rate

Lunch Buffet is PHP2688
50% off credit card promo = PHP1344
Minimum of 2 and maximum of 10 diners
Thursday to Sunday
12:00NN to 2:30PM
The promo is from January 1, 2025 to December 31, 2025 (not valid on holiday/blackout dates)

I informed my mom about it, and she approved, so my husband called to reserve. The staff asked for his contact number, and they sent a Viber message for confirmation, and called again, the day before our visit, to confirm our reservation.

We were all first-timers at Cucina by Marco Polo Ortigas Hotel, so we were looking forward to our food trip. We arrived early, so we just waited at the lobby until 12NN. Cucina is on time, pagkapasok pa lang namin sa restaurant, sinabihan na kami na pwede na kami magstart kumain.

Cucina is an all-day dining restaurant that offers Continental and Asian cuisine. Their concept is an open kitchen. The buffet spread is not that big compared to other hotels that we have tried, but it is complete from appetizers to desserts. In addition, may free drinks na rin.

My personal favorite here is the “Paluto”, similar to Marriott Cafe pero limited sa Grilled and Sauteed with Garlic and Butter lang yung choices. It is still okay for me since most of the time yung lang din request ko, grilled or with butter and garlic.

This was my mom’s despedida, but when my husband called to reserve, the staff asked kung may birthday daw ba. And hubby said yes, since 3 sa family namin ang may birthday ng June. And we received 3 complimentary cakes with candles pa when we dined. Actually, they also have a birthday promo 4+1 pero mas mura yung 50% off kaya yun ang ginamit namin.

Overall, we enjoyed our food trip at Cucina. We loved the food, and the service was also good. Mababait yung staff dito, nakasmile. They are fast in serving the ordered food, getting our empty plates, and refilling our water.

Day 5: Traveling from Da Nang Vietnam to Manila Philippines

Day 5 and our last day in Da Nang, Vietnam. It would be a long trip because of the layover. We woke up early because our call time for our airport ride was 5AM. We missed the buffet breakfast because of the early flight, so we requested for packed meal.

What is inside our packed meal? We have bottled water, hot beverage, fruits, and bread. We ate our breakfast at the airport while waiting for our flight.

We arrived so early, and the staff informed us that we could ride the first flight because there were still available seats, but we declined since we are traveling as a group.

Da Nang International Airport is not that big, so there are only a few choices if you want to eat, drink, or buy souvenirs. I bought some pasalubong pero hindi namin type yung nabili ko.

Da Nang to Ho Chi Minh City via Vietnam Airlines - 1hr and 20mins
Layover 4hrs and 10mins
Ho Chi Minh City via Philippine Airlines - 3hrs

Our flight was a little bit delayed, but we were not in a hurry because we had more than 4 hours' layover in Ho Chi Minh City.

During our flight, we had wet wipes, bottled water, and in-flight streaming services, but I did not watch any movies or shows because our flight was only 1 hour and 20 minutes. Mabibitin lang ako sa panonood.

When we arrived at Tan Son Nhat International Airport, we rode the bus from the airplane. The boarding was still closed and late din nag-open. Ang tagal namin naghintay kaya late na rin kami nakapaglunch. My son and I chose Burger King meals while my husband ate Pho.

We also bought some pasalubong here because we still have Vietnamese Dong left. Baka mahirapan na rin kami ipalit pa so gastusin na lang.

Ho Chi Minh City via Philippine Airlines

Travel time from Ho Chi Minh City to Manila Philippines is 3 hours and this was our meal. Umalis ng madaling araw and nakauwi ng gabi na.
