Lunch at Contis Nuvali

Mother in law was here for a quick visit so my husband decided to bring her to Nuvali but the weather did not cooperate because it was raining when we got there. We were not able to ride in taxi boat and we were not able to feed the koi. We had our lunch in Contis; it is really one of my favorite restaurants because of their lengua estofado and mango bravo cake.

We ordered apple potato salad, chicken ballotine, lengua estofado, parmesan fish fillet, Philly cheese steak, roast porkloin, blueberry cheesecake, mango bravo and ice tea. We were all satisfied with the food, service, and price.

Contis Tiramisu

P295 - mini tiramisu
I do not want to leave Nuvali without dropping by at Contis. I always order Mango Bravo but this time I want something new so I bought tiramisu. Honestly, this is my first time to eat tiramisu and I like it, a better version of mocha cake because of the layer of chiffon, creamy cheese filling and cocoa powder. My son loves it and he was able to finish two slices of tiramisu. It is not too sweet so you will definitely love this.

Contis Mango Tart + Lengua Estofado

I admit that we are really fanatics of Contis desserts especially Tiramisu, Mango Bravo and Bananalicious Pie but for a change, I will try something new. I’m choosing between blueberry cheesecake and mango tart, I can’t decide and the staff suggested mango tart so I bought the Mango Tart but we did not like it. I’m not saying that it is not good but this is not our type, it’s like eating a mango ice cream. Next visit I will try the blueberry cheesecake, any feedback?

I also bought frozen lengua estofado because I no longer have time to cook for our dinner. Contis lengua estofado is really my favorite and the taste is still the same when I reheat it.

Viennese Mocha Torte

Contis is one of our choices when it comes to cakes, we tried most of their desserts, pastries, and pies. August is my birthday month and my husband surprised me, he bought Viennese Mocha Torte for my birthday cake. It is like the mango bravo because it has layers of moist choco sponge cake, meringue, mocha cream mousse and topped with almonds. The cake is good but what I don’t like is the icing, it is super thick so parang nakakaumay na siya kainin. Price is P765 so I think I will just buy their chocolate cake.

Buttered Garlic Shrimp

One of my favorite foods is buttered garlic shrimp because it is so easy to prepare, cook, and eat. Lol! All you need is shrimp, butter, garlic, salt, and a dash of cayenne pepper to add some kick. You can have your buttered garlic shrimp in less than ten minutes.

Ingredients:

½ kilo of shrimp

½ cup butter
¼ cup garlic
Salt and pepper to taste

1. In a pan, melt butter and saute garlic.
2. Once you smell the aroma of the garlic, put the shrimp.
3. Add salt and pepper according to your preference.
4. Cook the shrimp until it changes its color.
5. Serve it hot.

Poquito Mas

We went to Paseo de Sta Rosa yesterday to look for a restaurant where we could eat our lunch, we are really hungry that time so when we saw this poster, we immediately went inside to check the food.

Poquito Mas restaurant ambiance is not really inviting but since we are hungry, we took a chance. We are not expecting that we will enjoy their Splatino buffet (Spanish, Latino, and Filipino) but we're really satisfied. P299 eat all you can is really worth it.

They serve soup, salad, dessert, fish, chicken, pork, vegetables, pasta, and others. I am too shy to take pictures on their buffet table so I only have limited picture of the food. I love their pork caldereta, rosemary chicken, roast porkloin and palitaw. The service staffs are all friendly and nice.

Danish Butter Cookies and Currant Cookies

Hubby gave us this butter cookie last night. He got this as a prize from his team building. I love the taste of the butter cookie because it is not too sweet. I wonder where I can buy this “Wonderful Copenhagen” Danish butter cookies.

Update: May 28, 2011

Hubby is back from his Shanghai trip and I am so happy that he brought me a box of cookie. I thought it was a butter cookie but I was wrong. Kjeldsens currant cookie is a little bit sweet with different texture but I still love it except for the currant because I do not like dried grape. Perfect match for hot chocolate drink or coffee. Another favorite from Denmark.

Cebu's Ayer Lechon

Every time my hubby will go Cebu, I only have one request; do not forget my pasalubong and he knows already that I want Cebu’s lechon. He was not able to buy CNT lechon so he opted to Cebu’s Ayer Lechon.  This was supposed to be our dinner but because of the “delayed” of PAL, it became a midnight snack. I really woke up just to eat this lechon.

I always love Cebu’s lechon because it is flavorful, tastier and cheaper compared to Manila’s lechon. No need for liver sauce or any condiments for their lechon.

P375 for 3/4 kilo

It may not look good in the picture but believe me, it is yummy! Hindi na nga lang malutong yung skin, makunat na. Two months ago my husband bought two kilos of CNT lechon and it took us 3 days to eat it but now, after 12 hours, no more Cebu’ Ayer Lechon (3/4 kilo).

Edited this post because of this

Update July 2017

My husband went back to Cebu last week and I told him to buy lechon. He always buys lechon at CnT since the branch is just near in Marriott Hotel. But he was running late to the airport so he bought lechon at Cebu's Ayer Lechon at Mactan International Airport. You have two options at the airport, either Zubuchon or Cebu's Ayer Lechon. The latter is cheaper at P375 per 1/2 kilo.

Update April 2023
It’s been a while since we went to Cebu and as expected, our Cebu trip is not complete without buying lechon. Since we did not go out and only stayed at Sheraton Mactan, sa airport lang kami bumili ng pasalubong.
We saw the kiosk of Cebu's Ayer Lechon at the entrance of the airport so we bought 1 kilo for PHP950. The box has instructions na, I remembered when I first bought this makunat yung balat but last year I used our air fryer to reheat it, and voila, hindi na siya makunat.
2-Easy Reheating Steps of Ayers Lechon
1. Defrost in the microwave oven.
2. Use an air fryer, convection oven, or oven toaster. Preheat for 5 mins at 180C. Wrap the meat with aluminum foil and place it in the fryer/oven for 16mins. In another sheet of foil, place the lechon skin and put it in the fryer/oven in the remaining 8 mins of cooking time. Then serve.

Asian Hospital E.R. Experience

Last week, when my son was not feeling well, we immediately brought him to Asian Hospital without eating our dinner. We stayed there for more than two hours waiting for his stool sample, but we did not get any, so finally they decided to give us a stool collector just in case my son poop, we can go to the nearest hospital to have it checked.
I am used to their E.R. facilities and services, but this is my first time seeing their room for infants and children. The room has a television to entertain the patient.

If I did not panic, my damage would be P500 for a pediatric check-up and not P1500+ for an E.R. check-up.

Day Trip in Liliw Laguna

After visiting our grandmother in Victoria, Laguna, we decided to go to Liliw, Laguna. It’s been two years since the last time I went to Liliw. On our way to Liliw, we passed by this house and post. I am not sure who owns this house.

“Sa pook na ito ng Maimpis binaril ng mga kawal ng Pamahalaang Kastila si Emilio Jacinto noong Pebrero 1898 kaugnay ng Himagsikan ng Pilipinas noong 1896-1898”

This is the famous red church in Liliw, founded in 1605, the St. John the Baptist Parish. The church is big and beautiful and you can see that they really preserved and maintained their church. There is a museum inside the church but unfortunately it was closed that time.

There is St. Bonaventure Candle Corner, P5 per candle. There are different candles that you can choose from and each candle has its own symbol.

Of course our trip will not be complete if we will not visit the “tsinelas stores”. It is walking distance from the church so you will not miss it. There are several stores that you can visit and you can buy slippers, sandals, shoes, hats, bags and others. You can still haggle for the price but some stores like Badong who does not give discount. Below are the things that I have bought from my trip.

Do not forget to visit the famous pizza and pasta restaurant “Arabela”, walking distance also from the “footwear store”.

On April 26-May 1, 2011, they will celebrate Liliw Gat Tayaw Tsinelas Festival.

How to Budget your Money

Budgeting is not easy, it is a skill that every moms should learn so we won't live from paycheck to paycheck. Here are the tips that Edwin De Guzman shared during our BMW (Beauty, Money and Wellness) seminar. It is all about Budgeting.

1. Get the whole picture.

2. Record the whole picture – you need to record all unexpected expenses, annual or quarterly expenses, monthly expenses, weekly expenses, and discretionary expenses.

Unexpected expenses – home repair and maintenance, and medical bills

Annual or Quarterly expenses – Homeowner’s Association Dues, license renewals, insurance, and property tax.
Monthly expenses – bank loans, credit card payments, rents, utilities, internet connections, cables, and others.
Weekly expenses – groceries, personal care, child support, and transportation.
Discretionary expenses – books, magazines, entertainment, dining, vacation, travel, and membership fees.

3. Compute your monthly expenses.

4. If expenses are over the income, you need to adjust your budget.

5. Review your budget worksheet. Spot any errors and make necessary adjustments and re-total.

6. If the expenses are still over the income, create new sources of income.

“Do not wait for opportunities, you create opportunities.”

7. Always keep a savings balance for a rainy day. Ideal amount is equivalent to six months of your net income.

8. Tithe or give back to God at least 10% of your income.

Morong Star Beach Resort and Hotel

I was able to go to Morong Star Beach Resort yesterday because I joined the B.M.W. Summer Retreat of Psorphil. Travel time from Alabang to Morong, Bataan is four hours so it is really far. The place is big and spacious so it can really accommodate retreats, conventions, company outings, team buildings, and others.

The food and drinks are just ok; there is nothing to rave about. The service is just ok.

The resort offers both beach and swimming pool. There is Adventure Park, playground, zip line, fun cart, and live band. The resort offers different amenities like basketball, volleyball, darts, billiards, chess and table tennis.

The rates are affordable whether for a day tour or an overnight stay. The rooms are also big but the aircon was not able to cool the whole room, so it is really hot.

Food in Morong Star Beach Reosrt and Hotel

If you live in Bataan, this can be one of your choices but for me who lives in the South area, I rather go to Laiya, Batangas.

Ilog Maria Products

Ilog Maria Honey and Propolis Shampoo – handmade from natural ingredients: Honey for conditioning and hair growth. Propolis for scalp infections, dandruff, falling, and graying hair. Natural oils like palm kernel oil, castor oil, and coconut oil for gentle cleansing. Aromatherapy-grade essential oils from herbs and fruits nourish and heal your scalp while fighting skin ailments.
P70 and P140
Note: This is my first time using organic shampoo and I will definitely use this to free my hair from chemicals. The shampoo is a little bit runny and there is no foam when you lather it on your hair. The scent is very different from ordinary shampoo but I love the smell.

Propolis and Cider Liniment – penetrates deeply to soothe tired and stiff muscles and tendons by stimulating blood circulation. This aids in the fast removal of wastes from fatigued muscles and supplies vital oxygen, food, and energy to muscle cells. Hastens repair of damaged tissues. It contains propolis, honey cider, plant extracts, essential oils of menthol and camphor, and other natural ingredients.
P95
Note: I do not like the smell but it really soothes and cools your muscles.

Honey Propolis Throat Spray – anti-viral, anti-bacterial, and anti-oxidant. It freshens breath, eases sore throat, quiets smoker’s cough, and keeps gums healthy.
P75
Note: I find this effective and it is really handy. It tastes like Bactidol.

Honey Beeswax and Propolis Lip Balm P65
Note: I love this lip balm, definitely must have.

Ilog Maria Sting-Less – Citronella mosquito repellent with propolis, natural plant, and fruit oils. It has pleasing smell that lasts for hours. It provides antifungal, antibacterial, and anti-viral action.
P70
Note: I’ve been using Bgone lotion and Bgone spray for almost 3 years and I find it really effective to repel mosquitoes and other insects. But when I saw Ilog Maria Sting-Less for P70, I did not hesitate to try this product. I love the scent but I think it only lasts for a few hours unlike Bgone spray and Bgone lotion which lasts for 4 to 10 hours.

Ilog Maria Healing Massage Oil- An aromatic and soothing blend of essential oils, herbs, flowers, fruit, nut oils, honey, and bee propolis.
P155
Note: I really love the scent of this massage oil, it really soothes and relaxes your muscles and there is no doubt that it is excellent for healing massage, reflexology, and shiatsu.

Spearmint and Oatmeal soap – Cooling and refreshing. Perfect for hot days. Alleviates skin asthma.
P35/P60
Note: It is absolutely true that this soap is perfect for the summer season because it really cools and refreshes your body. I love the minty scent of this soap. It is also for sensitive skin.
