Baguio: Cafe by the Ruins
Read: 24 Hours Trip in Baguio
Last month, we were supposed to spend one day in Baguio, but my husband learned that there is a number coding scheme in Baguio, so we extended our holiday in Pangasinan and revisited Lingayen, Pangasinan. Waah! Natapat pa talaga sa coding.

So Last December 29, off we went to Baguio. We just ate breakfast at Cafe by the Ruins. I’ve been hearing and reading a lot of reviews about this restaurant, but I haven’t tried it yet. My husband was surprised when he learned na hindi pa ko nakakain dito, so he decided that we would eat breakfast in Cafe by the Ruins before going to Sagada.
The parking was limited, and good thing that we were still early, so we were able to park. The entrance was not appealing, but when I entered the restaurant, I was surprised, maganda pala sa loob. Indeed, it is Baguio's best-loved restaurant because it is unique when it comes to interior and menu.
The menu was already on the table, so we browsed it immediately.
My son ordered Pan de Sal P85+. A traditional Filipino bread with a choice of regular, whole wheat, or malunggay variations + a choice of cheese, jam, or butter for spread. We were shocked when we saw the pandesal, it was enormous, malaki pa sa kamao k,o so my son was not able to finish even one piece of it.
I ordered Bacon and Egg P340+ so I can share it with my son. The meal includes thick slices of home-cured bacon, one egg, and your choice of garlic rice or pandesal. I have no idea that they will serve red rice, Waah! I requested white rice, but they don’t have any, so I have no choice but to eat it. It is not bad naman, but I prefer white rice lang talaga.
My husband ordered Mt Data Tapa Rice P340+. The meal includes cured beef tapa, tomatoes, and onions with scrambled egg. I liked his order. hehehe!
All breakfast meals have free coffee or tea and a cup of fresh fruit, so it is already a complete meal. My husband suggested that I try the hot chocolate because it is good, so we upgraded my drink to hot chocolate for an additional fee. He also requested for strawberry and mango fruit shake, which we liked too. I’m not sure if it is included in our breakfast meal.
The breakfast meal is not cheap, but I think the price is already reasonable because you have fruits, drinks, and a main course. The serving is big too, and if you don’t eat that much, you can really share the food with your kids, just order extra rice or bread.
Now I know why I haven’t tried this restaurant before. Mahal pala siya and last trip namin sa mga mura lang kami kumain. Hehehe! But if you have extra budget, don’t forget to drop by this restaurant if you visit Baguio.
From the menu
... Its menu changed quarterly according to the seasons, representing not only a restaurant concept but an ethos. The food reflects the ecology and rhythm of Baguio and Cordilleras. It is fresh, representing the best of the day's market; it is home-cooked and reflects the vision of native tradition and of health.

4 Days Adventure in Coron Palawan
Two days ago, my husband told me that Nickelodeon is planning to build an underwater resort and theme park in Palawan. Yesterday, I started seeing a lot of posts about it, and I’m one of those people who do not agree with the idea of building an underwater resort or theme park in Palawan.
Coron, Palawan is a gem—please don’t destroy it. We visited this place 12 years ago, and we’re planning to go back so our son can also experience the beauty of Coron. But not anytime soon, since most of the activities here involve island hopping. #CoronIsNotBikiniBottom
Because of this, I suddenly found myself reminiscing about our trip. Coron, Palawan, remains one of my most memorable vacations, and I consider it one of the best places I’ve ever been to. Honestly, I wasn’t familiar with the place when my ex-boyfriend—now husband—first suggested it.
I’m happy that I was able to visit this place 12 years ago because today, the rates are quite expensive. Imagine—almost all the places we visited back then had no entrance fees, but now, the entrance fee is around ₱200 or less.
The main disadvantage back then was the airfare. There were no promo fares, and only two airlines offered flights to Busuanga: Sea Air and Asian Spirit. In 2005, they were the only ones flying that route. The planes were small, with only 19 seats, so you could really feel every movement. (Those airlines don’t exist anymore)
We visited Coron with no preparations at all. We just booked our flight and off we went—with no room reservations and no itineraries. There were so many first-time experiences and unforgettable memories from that trip. It was truly an adventure for all of us.
Sharing with you our adventure. #AdventureInCoronPalawan
Day 1: Off to Coron, Palawan
It was our first trip by airplane—just me, my friend, and my ex-boyfriend (now husband). Level-up na kasi may work na! We were a little nervous since it was also our first time flying on a 19-seater plane. Thank God we landed safely at Francisco Reyes Airport. I was surprised to see how small the airport was!
From the airport, we rode a jeep to get to the city proper—₱100 per head.
We didn’t book any accommodation, thinking it wasn’t peak season. Unfortunately, Sea Dive Resort was already fully booked. They suggested we try Darayonan Lodge, so we took a tricycle to get there. Sadly, the lodge was also fully booked, but they told us that a room would be available by evening. It was only lunchtime, but we had no choice but to wait. The room with a private bathroom was ₱300 per head, plus an additional ₱50 if you wanted a TV.
Lesson learned: Always book your accommodation in advance.
We also asked where we could rent a boat for our tours, and they referred us to Calamian Geo Eco-Culture Expedition Travel and Tours. Not wanting to waste any time, we left our baggage at the lodge and went to the travel agency. They offered several packages, and we booked the Coron Tour (₱1,200) and Culion Tour (₱1,800).
Maquinit Hot Springs
We hired a tricycle to go to Maquinit Hot Springs for ₱100—round trip, with the driver waiting for us. This was our only itinerary for the day. We truly enjoyed the hot spring; it helped relieve the stress of not having a place to stay. Hehehe!
We returned to the lodge, and we were so glad we finally had a place to rest.
Day 2: Coron Island Tour
We woke up early because our tour was scheduled to start at 8 AM. We headed to Calamian Travel and Tours to rent a kayak, snorkels, and fins—and of course, to meet our boatmen for the day.
The seaport is just beside the market, so before hopping on the boat, we bought cooked rice, bread, and ingredients for grilled liempo—enough for five people (3 of us + 2 boatmen).
Itinerary for the day:
Banol Beach, Twin Lagoon, Skeleton Wreck, CYC Island, Barracuda Lake, and Maquinit Hot Spring.
(Since we already visited Maquinit Hot Spring on our first day, we decided to skip it.)
First stop: Banol Beach
A small and peaceful beach, perfect for relaxing and unwinding. It’s also great for kayaking and snorkeling. This was our first time trying kayaking, and we really enjoyed it!
While we were enjoying the beach, our boatmen cooked our lunch—and we ate right there on the beach. What a treat!
Next stop: Twin Lagoon
This place was absolutely beautiful! There were so many fish, so we even tried fishing—and we were so happy because we caught several! We gave the fish to the boatmen. Apparently, they were all edible. Yay!
Then we went to: Skeleton WreckHere, you can see a Japanese shipwreck underwater. Honestly, I got scared. I had this weird feeling that something might pull my legs—so I didn’t stay in the water too long. LOL! But if you’re a diver, I’m sure you’ll enjoy this spot a lot.
Next stop: CYC Island
It was too crowded when we arrived, so we decided to move on to the next destination.
Barracuda Lake
To get to the lake, we had to trek a bit. On the way, we saw a lot of sea urchins—so be careful! The lake itself was crystal clear and so beautiful, but we were the only people there. It felt a bit eerie, so we didn’t stay long. We joked that if something happened to us, even if we screamed, the boatmen might not hear us. Hehehe!
Last stop: Siete Pecados (Marine Park)
We were too tired from swimming all day (even with life vests!), so only my ex-bf went for a swim here. Unfortunately, he lost our ring in the water. Good thing we weren’t married yet—at least it wasn’t the wedding ring that got lost. LOL!
Day 3: Culion Tour
This was our last day of island hopping since we had an early flight the next day. Just like the previous days, we bought cooked rice and fresh fish from the market for our lunch.
Itinerary for the day:
Culion Tour, Sangat Island Resort, Gunboat, Coral Garden, Culion Church, and Culion Museum.
While we enjoyed the beach, our boatmen grilled our fish. We had lunch here before heading to the next destination.
This is a private resort, so we just stopped by briefly to take some photos.
We went to Sangat Island Dive Resort, it is a private resort. We just took some pictures.
Next stop: Coral Garden
A beautiful snorkeling spot with vibrant marine life. Perfect for underwater photos and a relaxing swim.
Last stop: Culion Island
You’ve probably already heard or read about this place. Culion was once known as “The Land of the Living Dead” because it was where people with leprosy were relocated during the American colonial period. It was only in 2006 that the World Health Organization officially declared Culion leprosy-free. So when we visited back in 2005... hindi pa siya leprosy-free—waaah!
We didn’t have a tour guide, so we did our own walking tour. We visited La Immaculada Church, Fort Culion, and the Culion Museum. At the museum, there was a guide who gave us an overview of Culion’s history, which was both informative and touching.
We didn’t stay too long since we had to travel back to Coron Island—about a two-hour boat ride.
Day 4: Back to Manila
Three amazing days were over—time to go back to reality.
When I returned to the office, my officemates were surprised. “Negra ka na!” they said, thanks to all the island hopping. 😅
I still dream of visiting Coron again. And when we do come back, I hope we finally get to visit Mt. Tapyas View Deck, Banana Island, Malcapuya Island, and Calauit Safari.
I’ll definitely take more photos next time! If you notice, our pictures aren’t that great—this was still the time we were using film cameras, so we were super tipid with our shots. Hehehe!

Day Trip at Lingayen Pangasinan
We are all familiar with Lingayen because it is part of our History subject, it is our former president Fidel V. Ramos, aka FVR, birthplace, and one of the World War II strategic points. Would you believe that it is also considered the most romantic place in the country?
If you are planning to visit Bolinao or Hundred Islands, you can include a Day Trip in Lingayen, Pangasinan, in your itinerary. As I mentioned before, I’ve been to Lingayen, Pangasinan, several times. When I was a kid, my uncle always invited us if there were events in their province, like weddings or fiestas. Then I got married to my husband, who was born and raised in Pangasinan, too.
Now, I’m sharing with you the things that you can do or visit if you visit Lingayen, Pangasinan.
Lingayen Beach
Lingayen’s long beach is open to the public; there are cottages where you can stay if you just want to relax or if you want to swim. I have so many memories from this beach, and I can no longer remember how many times I have been here.
But during our past visits last 2011 and 2016, we did not swim.
March 2011 - after dropping my mother-in-law off at the market, we went to Lingayen just to show the different tanks and planes to my son. It was just a quick trip because we needed to fetch my mother-in-law from the market again.
December 2016 - we were supposed to swim, but unfortunately, my son had a fever the day before our trip, so relax na lang at may Sagada pa kami. hehehe! He just enjoyed playing with sand with his cousin.
Provincial Capitol
This is one of the beautiful capitols I’ve seen around the Philippines.
Aguedo Agbayani Park
Just in front of the Provincial Capitol, you can see the Aguedo Agbayani Park. This is a nice place to relax at night, mainit sa umaga syempre. Hehehe!
Cultural Memorial Park
It is where you can see pictures and read stories about World War II so if you like history you will enjoy this place.
World War II Memorabilia
Around the area, you will also see the World War II Memorabilia Ground Site. There are tanks and small airplanes that were used in World War II.
During our last visit, we were able to visit Urduja House, but we were not able to go inside the house. It is not open sa public pala but we were allowed to go inside the gate and take pictures outside the house.
Ramos House
Then we started looking for the Ramos House, which is located at the back of the President’s Hotel. It is also closed. I’m not sure if it is open to the public or guests of the President’s Hotel.
Some attractions that you can visit in Lingayen, Pangasinan are Town Park, Capitol Grounds, Sison Auditorium, Limahong Channel and Narciso Ramos Sports Complex, and Civic Center.

Highlights of Year 2016
If the year 2015 is a challenging year for our family, bumawi naman kami sa 2016. Though there were still challenges overall, it is still a good year so I’m thankful for the year 2016.
2016 is a year of acceptance, last year I was adjusting to my husband’s work. He has so many business trips that I’m not used to. For someone who is “TIME” is the language of love, the presence of my husband is very important to me.
But accepting the fact that he really needs to travel for work makes my life easier. Nakakapagod na rin naman magtampo kung wala siya pag weekend or holidays so accept and move on na lang.
2016 is a year, when I’m trying to be independent, I used to be independent when I was still single, I can go anywhere and anytime I want. Things change when I got married and had my son, I became so dependent on my husband na dapat lagi ko siya kasama kahit saan.
But year 2016, I’m trying my best to be independent. It started with our Cebu trip, I’m proud to say na nakapagtaxi kami na kaming dalawa lang mag-ina. It is a big achievement for me. Hehehe! My son and I were able to tour Japan and Singapore without hubby because he was busy with work so kami lang mag-ina ang namasyal. Hopefully, I can do that here in the Philippines, sana safe na in the near future.
2016 is also our travel year, last year I realized that life is so short, sa sobrang severe ng psoriasis ko feeling ko mag-goodbye earth na ko so when my condition improved last year, I really took advantage of the time na ok ako. Throughout the year, I was still going to the hospital for check-up and lab tests but no phototherapy so I could travel. Yes, do the things that make me happy while I’m still alive.
So let me share what happened in 2016?
January
We started our year with check-ups, my son and I started wearing eyeglasses. I have had eyeglasses since college but after I resigned from work, I stopped going to ophtha na. Wag gayahin, we need to have eye check-ups every year. I need to change my eyeglasses kasi tumaas na pala grado ko. And because I need to be a role model to my son, lagi ko na rin suot. Hehehe!
My son went to Pediatric Dentist too for tooth extraction, it is one painful experience that he can’t forget. Of course, I had my routine check-up with my derma.
February
My husband underwent Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy at St Lukes BGC so we had a hospital staycation. I was thankful for the successful operation, I have never been so scared in my life, di ako mapakali nung nasa operating room hubby ko.
February is also our wedding anniversary and we just celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary. Oh yes, one decade of TWOgetherness. We had a staycation at Vivere Azure, ate at La Finca Tagaytay and tried painting at Sip & Gogh Alabang.
March
Our family joined, “Run for Hungry Minds”. My son and I joined 2.5km while my husband finished the 5km run. We went to National Shrine Pio, Nurture Wellness, and Caleruega again last Holy Thursday. We had Easter Staycation at Vivere Hotel, my son experienced his first Easter Egg Hunting event. Watch the video here.
My son got Red Eagle Award so we went back to school for Recognition Day.
April
We revisited Cebu, this was a memorable trip because we stayed in Cebu for 6 days, unlike nung last visit namin na overnight lang. Hehehe! My son and I experienced business class flight. We tried three hotels during our trip, we stayed in Cebu City Marriott Hotel, Cebu Parklane International Hotel and Crimson Resort and Spa Mactan.

My son got a gold eagle seal again and we treated him a bowling game. Watch the video here.
December
December is a busy month as always. We went to St James Bazaar, I attended Youth Builders Reunion, busy with advent calendar and holiday activities and of course, we ended our 2016 with a BANG. Breakfast at Verbena Restaurant of Discovery Country Suites
Read: Staycation at Discovery Suites Hotel
For the last few years, it became our tradition to go to Tagaytay church every Christmas and eat hearty breakfast before going home. So last Christmas, off we went to Tagaytay as early as 5 AM, we wanted to attend the first service. On our way to church, we’ve been contemplating where are we going to eat breakfast, ano pa ba ang nasa bucket list namin? Hehehe!
We’re supposed to eat a buffet breakfast but I suddenly changed our plans, di ko feel magbuffet muna. Hehehe! So off we went to Discovery Country Suites, we don’t have any reservations, we just go there and asked if they accept walk-ins. Yey, they accept walk-ins!
Upon entering the Discovery Country Suites, you will immediately see the Restaurant Verbena. We chose the table with a view, of course, and the staff handed us the menu. Since it was our first time, it took us time to choose our meal.
All breakfast meals are priced at P495+, it include a buffet of butter croissants, biscuits, Danish pastries, pandesal, banana bread, fresh fruits, and seasonal juices. The drink is a choice of refillable coffee, tea or hot chocolate.
While waiting for our order, we ate bread while my son ate cereal. The hot chocolate is not instant chocolate but tsokolate de batirol. Yum!
I ordered Verbena Breakfast Steak, seared US beef short plate, onions, and pepper served with egg and roasted potatoes.
My husband ordered Regions Breakfast, it includes the best of Southern Luzon on a plate which is crispy tawilis and Lucban longganisa served with egg and garlic rice.
My son ordered Cottage Breakfast, which includes fluffy pancakes with scrambled eggs, country sausage, and bacon. He was not able to finish this meal kasi nabusog na siya sa bread and cereals so take-out na lang.
We enjoyed our breakfast meal because it feels like home. The place was not crowded and the service is fast and efficient. Good thing I changed my mind and chose Verbena for our Christmas breakfast. It is no doubt that this is a multi-awarded restaurant.
The price is not budget-friendly but for me, it is worth it because you have buffet bread, cereals, fruits, juices, and drinks + the meal of your choice. It is like having an intimate breakfast because of the place and service. Christmas naman, time to treat ourselves with good food.

How to Make Polymer Clay Christmas Ornaments
The less you have and do, the more you will FREE
So for the last few years, I just added one or more ornaments and reused the old decorations. If there is stuff that I won’t use anymore, I give it away. For the last 3 years, we’ve been making handmade decorations on our Christmas tree. So far, we made Christmas angels, paper ornaments, salt dough ornaments, and gingerbread ornaments. It is really nice to see those DIY ornaments every year because it is not just a decoration; we made it, and there is a story behind it. It is a good way of keeping our memories alive.
Last Saturday, we made another Christmas ornament using Polymer Clay. It is our Day 17 Advent Calendar activity. We made Salt Dough Ornaments last year, but they did not last, so this year I decided to use polymer clay.
I bought polymer clay last month at National Bookstore, but there are only two available colors, green and yellow, and I chose green. I only bought one clay so we can try it. The polymer is not cheap either, P95. For the tools, we use my son’s clay tools that I bought in Daiso Japan, an old Christmas tree Cookie Cutter, and an Oven Toaster.
Since it will be our first time using polymer clay, we just chose an easy design, which is a Christmas Tree, and we put our family's fingerprint to add a personal touch.
For baking time, I just refer to the instructions on the back of the polymer clay packaging. We use Sharpie pens to color the fingerprint.
We’re so happy with our first polymer clay Christmas ornaments. We will definitely do this again, more practice pa. Aside from NBS, do you know where I can buy polymer clay here in the Philippines?
Update: December 2017
We did not do any Advent Calendar activity this year. Last year, we made ornaments using polymer clay, so this year, my son wanted to make a new ornament. So when I visited a bookstore, I bought red polymer clay. He was bugging me to do it right away, but I told him, sa Christmas break na lang so he has something to do.
So during the holiday break, we made new polymer clay ornaments. We did not hang this anymore, kasi a few days nalang Christmas na. hehehe! But I will include this in our Christmas tree next year. I made the wreath and watermelon.
